Doesn't even mention text speak and is IMO a fairly sweeping generalisation (and an unfair one in this case).

Glad we're all on a similar wavelength here, i was worried about causing a riot. Some things are ok - like the abreviations of commonly encountered phrases (providing that, if someone dosn't understand them, then someone informs them straight away) and expressions of actions (e.g. 'lol', although in fairness there are emoticons to avoid using stuff like that).

I wonder if any of the people who do use text-speak on here (you know who you are, and we know who you are, but I'm not naming names) have read this thread?

Does it bother people if shortened versions of words are used then? for example: gonna (going to), wanna (want to) etc?

hmm ok. I've not come across one of those types of posts just as well!! see what you mean now. I had to read that 2 or 3 times to fully understand it and I'm fairly familiar with text language...

Yes. they are not real words and typical of the slovenly way that some people speak. High horse time I am afraid. I cannot abide this type of speech. Britain is still a very class conscious society, and nothing is guaranteed to place somebody as the poor use of the English language.

I would correct my children when they talked in this manner. I just wish all parents would
