Seriously though, what is best way to go for me on the SV...? Thats the one thing I miss from the CBR and the Black SV...
Reading through the threads on suspension mods, and i think i get the idea, but the issue of rider weight making a big difference does interest me, as I actually am around 18.5st!

That being the case, should i change to progressive springs and heavier oil upfront and a 636 shock at the back, or should I go a different route, being a bit, ahem, chunky?

Springs should be with me tomorrow (order was delayed due to something else I ordered not being in stock). The only thing I'm not looking forward to is finding out what spacers to use! Or do the springs come with spacers? I think I remember setting the spacers right is equivalent to setting the preload on adjustable forks? Any easy way to do this or is it a case of constantly tweaking them and measuring the sag until I get it right? (i.e. tedious!).

Also need to set up the ZX10R shock . Though the tank fell off the side while installing it and scratched all the way through to the primer! . Got some touch up paint and wet & dry to sort that out hopefully..

If that was indeed the case then one would think that the Japs would get it right in the first instance. There's a touch more to springs than just the poundage that they exert old boy.

Cheers.

Not really, a 110nm spring is a 110nm spring regardless of who manufactures the spring, admittedly there will be variations in the wire thickness or quality of the steel used to make it but, essentially they are the same. If this were not the case then each spring in every bike, car, plane or anything that uses a spring would have a different spring rate to it. Plus you have to think that if every manufacturer got it right first time then what reason would you have for buying the next model as some folk are apt to do, with an uprated front end to cure the built in push or oversteer. We mortals don't live on the edge of the performance of our bikes like the Rossi' and Corsa' of this world so replacing the springs is really just a cost or pose issue. I use White Power whenever possible to replace all my rear shocks, I find the service is better and I like the looks. I could have gone the same way with my fork springs but Hagon were a lot cheaper for almost the same result.

Any idea how much they charge for it?
I had a full service on my forks, new harder springs fitted and the correct oil for my weight and riding style. It cost £185, i have now got a front end that works.

Using a professional company to do the upgrade also ensures that the seals & bushes and sliders are in good condition. It isnt the cheapest but it isnt the most expensive either. With the shock i have also fitted i have a bike that is infinately better than standard round corners. I am going to do a trackday at Mallory on the 18th so i will be putting it to a more severe test then, but for road use its great.

Only in linear springs, in progressives the rate is a function of the compression of the spring. More varieties of those than you can shake a tree at.
