My first post ...

intresting thread. will have a couple of ? about this mod.. hope you dont mind..

1st ?.. are you using the origonal headstock bearings from the GSXR1000K4?

2nd ?.. Are you using the stearing damper?

3rd ?.. what is the hight difference between the stock sv650 forks and the GSXR600 ones?

4th ?.. this is the big one .. lol.. could you please do a complete parts list & problems once you are done.

only reason i'm asking is coz i'm vertically chalanged 5'2" e.g. a short **** ... and i need to go down 40mm on the back end plus a cutdown seat which means the front is going to be way to high. besides it looks well cool with the new front end and will handel a lot better me thinks.

cheers Bibio

BTW.. i love that copper bearing drift...

Ask away...also, take a look through the threads written by Uber and Phil24_7 who have already done this mod on post K3 bikes. A very helpful link can be found in The Gr33k's signature. I will put the link in here later.

1st ?.. are you using the origonal headstock bearings from the GSXR1000K4? No idea, my brother works in a dealer so I just gave him a shopping list and a pile of cash.

2nd ?.. Are you using the stearing damper? Nope.

3rd ?.. what is the hight difference between the stock sv650 forks and the GSXR600 ones? I haven't measured, but it is noticable - probably 20mm or so. I can't comment on how it feels to sit on...because I haven't yet. The battery is still disconnected so the seat is in the bedroom.

4th ?.. this is the big one .. lol.. could you please do a complete parts list & problems once you are done. I will put MY parts list down, but bear in mind that there are multiple options for almost all the parts, and the parts I used won't be from the same GSXR generation as those required for a pre K2 aka curvy bike.

It does look very cool, even though the plastics are still not fitted.

cheers Bibio

BTW.. i love that copper bearing drift...

It was borrowed from my brother...it weighed a ton!

What a frustrating evening.

I finished the speedo wiring, and realised I had no insulation tape, so completing that will have to wait until tomorrow.

So I reconnected the battery and tested the speedo...it wasn't working...how irritating. So, I got out the trusty multimeter and had a mess around. The output of the sensor wasnt changing, so I stripped it off the bike and wobbled it infront of a stationary magnet - hey presto I had a changing voltage and the speedo was reading too. I could almost feel the wind rushing through my hair.

Looks like although I could feel the sensor being pulled by the magents when I test fitted it, the sensor wasn't activating.

Fast forward about an hour and I have removed the sensor, remounted it on the bracket, rewired it and now it works. So I am now a happy bunny.

...still had to pratt about getting the cable routing to be better though.

Net result of all the effort today - the battery is reconnected and the seat refitted.

...brakes not bled yet. Still if I did it all today what would I do tomorrow?? Maybe I would have to actually ride it!!!

So its tomorrow already...

Brakes have been bled this evening, but they are still spongy and unresponsive - more work to do there. However, they were good enough for me to go for a short ride up and down our street at low speed. Everything feels OK - nothing fell off or is catching / scraping / flexing etc.

The speedo is poo though. Very unstable, wobbling between speeds rather than giving a constant reading. No idea what is going on there. When I am happy with the brakes I will get the sat nav hooked up and check it against that, to see if the speedo value oscillates around a 'true' reading.

Uber / Phil / Red Herring / Loser - any advice? Or is this how the speedo is?
