Default Re: DAS Test Question

Hope not posting this too late?

Been asked this one lots, did a bit of Instructin I did.

To get your head round slow riding control, you must think of it in similar terms to a fire triangle, If you do not have the fire, you will not be able to turn.

Your Clutch is not a simple on/off switch as it is with say a car, feather the clutch so that it is partially engaged but can still slip enough to prevent you from roaring off down the road and in turn keep the throttle open allowing the engine to rev at about 5 - 6 thousand RPM, so that the engine is busy and producing power (listen to the engine sound and don't concentrate on the rev counter or you will miss all of the heavenly glory).

You will now be moving forward, but not really be in full control of your speed or progression so you must use the rear brake to control speed, in effect holding the bike back against the engine. By using this method you will find that slow speed control becomes easier to handle and with in a few minutes you will be looking like a bike super hero, once you find the way, you wont need any instructor to tell you how to do it because it will feel right ( Jayne comments : trust me here, I asked Carol for help with my slow speed control and when she explained it like this to me it suddenly made sense and I could do it even on our SV).

You must use them all together or the system will fail you, so remember these golden rules.

Busy Engine
Clutch on biting point
Use rear brake to control speed

Good luck
