Oh right I just use vice for breaking the bead and have never touched rim with that. My rims are scuffed to hell though because I'm lazy and dont bother with rim protectors on my own wheels, but if you've seen the rest of my bike you'll see why this isn't an issue!

I've fitted my own tyres too! £115 for the last pair on the CBR - Dunlop D208RRs so not a new tyre but by all accounts I've read it's a decent tyre, and has caused me no issues. 180 rear there too.
I scratched the rims, but it's my own fault as the bead breaker has a small piece of metal that I guess is designed to stop the wheel slipping - er, except it scratches it. I'm removing that next time! Other than that, I had trouble fitting the front, and took it to a shop for them to pop the bead over the rim, but I think I know why it was so much trouble & am ready to give it a go again ![]() I don't know if I'll do the tyres on the GSX-R myself though - I'd probably be getting 2CTs which are about £180-£190 for the tyres alone (on the internet) and it would not be much more to have them fitted. They have some serious equipment at tyre fitters, so much easier! But this way I'll guarantee not to damage them, I don't mind screwing up the CBR rims practicing lol. |

Only if saving 30 quid is worth the risk of scratching the hell out of your rims! But from what I have read of you on here, I don't think you're that fussed!

Have changed them on other peoples bikes with the use of rim protectors and done no damage at all. My own bike is a bike, not ornament so I'm not really rsed.

At the price you just paid, I hope it came with a free lapdance. But, anyone who says you can't tell when a Roadtec or Strada is getting low is just wrong- a glance at the tread beside the slick section shows you how low yours was.

Its really not that hard to change tyres without scratching rims.
I run over the tyre with a van to break teh bead, and use a big ****off screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape. Ghetto, but it works, and no scratches. |
