What is it with people being funny about parking in front of their houses? You don't own the road in front of your house, provided the car has road tax and isn't obstructing the drive, why do you think they shouldn't park there? Have you never parked in front of someone else's house?

chalk markers are great write on the windscreen - its not damage as it washes off but they soon get the point
we have to do that to the ones that use our residents carpark as a park and ride for the bus - but then again its the only parking for 20 odd flats (holds 10 cars) and we don't have drives and we are precious about it.
telling them that CCTV is watching normally helps - its taken a maximum of two days to get rid of offenders without calling the police.

but if all its doing is spoiling the view - leav it be. it almost as bad as the OAPs round here wanting an ASBO on the youngsters because they are too noisy - when they walk past their front door at 4pm coming home from school!

Hers an idea. Unscrew the number plates, go hire a car, then put them on the hire car and go for a blat past all the speed cameras in the area, take car back, remove number plates. If you can hire a car the same, then this would be better

We currently have a random person who is parking in our residents parking area. I would say something but they have enough torubles...its a Hyundai Amica!!

Tim

If you happen to decide to nick the wheels off the 525 I'll have 'em if they're standard ones. The stupidly big 18s on my 528 are horrid.

Kidding.

Mostly.

I could make up some giant "POLICE AWARE" graphics for you maybe? Could include a footnote with something like "This vehicle is scheduled to be removed on 15/11/08 at 11:25" or something along those lines? If they still dont shift, it's free game.

Legally you have no right over the bit in front of your house, but never mind

I am afraid you probably should just leave it alone and wait for the owner to collect it - maybe a polite note on the screen?

There is a Rover 820 parked near to my house (not so near to be annoying though) - its got two completely flat front tyres and has been sitting there (on the road) for the past two months at least - I happened to walk past it the other day and noticed that its taxed until the end of November - what I couldnt help wondering was - its obviously a piece of junk and if the owner has just let the tyres go flat I am assuming he doesnt care much for it - so why leave 4 months rent on the screen when he could have weighed the car in and claimed back the tax?!

Some odd people about!

I've done that before. For some old cars, the scrap value is less than the cost of disposing of the tyres!! So scrapyards don't really want them, as they'll sit for years rusting, and not really make any profit.

The Mrs wanted to sell the car, fine, but I knew no-one would buy it, so it sat outside, on what I thought was private land. Turned out it wasn't private land, and we got a notice basically stating "if this car is still here in X days, we'll remove it, crush it & charge you for doing so."

At that point, the Mrs found a scrap yard that would come & collect it at no cost, but they weren't willing to pay for the car either. She was pretty miffed about that!

It turns out these two cars were sold at auction Monday night. They now have notices on the windscreen advising they are to be recovered as abandoned.

That was in the old days - the price of scrap metal is pretty good now and you almost guaranteed about £100 for a car at the scrappys - espeically a big old bus like a Rover 800 - what you are saying would have been true 5 years ago though...
