But both are very very nice cameras. Besides I just want the auto focus because I am lazy sometimes.

And lots of little lenses have motors, my kit 18-55mm has a motor in it.
Or you can learn how to manual focus, I've got some really great results out of a loaned 50 mm. Sure it's slower than auto focus (and I wouldn't use it for action pics unless I could pre-focus, blablablah), but it's a wonderful portrait lens, aided by the fact that on every Nikon DX camera it's a 75 mm equivalent (short telephoto). Now combine that with the beautiful bokeh when wide open and you can get creamy blurred backgrounds for £80. And stopped down from f/2.8 it's as sharp as they get.

Yes I'm drooling!

You want a nice Canon you do...

That said the D40, D40x, and D60 are a hell of a lot of camera for the money...

Hey, I used to know someone called Anna! She earned a living by standing by the light switch in theatres and turning the audience lights on and off at intervals or something. Do you know her?

I believe she's been promoted now, they're letting her have a go with all the cool sound stuff!

Yes I am learning to take photos using manual focus. However, I find the viewfiender a bit painful sometimes so I always take a backup shot with the manual focus just in case. Some of my best shots from the AR and my trip to australia was using MF.

I often prefer using manual focus if I'm not getting action shots, sometimes its annoying using the auto focus when it focuses on something I don't want it to focus on. That being said, I would want my lense to have autofocus built into it whatever I get. SO i might be waiting a while to get another lense (let alone three) because of the monies

I think I could live without autofocus though for portraits, which is what I would use a lense with a low f number for anyway. Portraits is something I want to learn to do well

wonder if my uni does a night course in photography?

Sorry Raf, I just quoted your reply but I meant AlpineTopboxHero, I wasn't having a dig at you
As a side rant though, the D60 mini-viewfinder kind of sucks for MF, it's just too friggin' small... thank god they've put a rangefinder in there, but we could really use more than 3 spots... oh well, entry-level DSLRs and all that.

Apparently you can change the little zoom finder lens thingy for a bigger one, which I am seriously considering so that manual focus becomes a lot easier.

Please let me know if you do, I might be interested in that too.
