And then proceeds to roast them in an unleaded-fed inferno?
Time for a carol:
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire....

Not of the waterfall I'm afraid, as it was frozen across the path too, and far too steep to hang around on. Got this one down on the beach that I liked though.
We're home now, so sad not to be down there, I so Hate the Midlands

I have, several times, think the first telling was about 30 years ago

Also seen the aftermath of a chain snapping, not at high speed I hasten to add, after rapping itself round the drive sprocket it decided it needed more room so burst through the gear casing, nice oily mess

And back on topic, yep a little cooler today, had to wipe the ice off the seat before I came home

Personally, I can't wait to get back on the road (cold or not). OH has now put my wee bike back together (I'm only O.K. at taking it to bits - all the the nuts and bolts in named Chinese plastic cartons!). The sub-frame has now been painted (rust discussed at Ice Cream run-St.Andrews), front and rear brakes have had the salt removed from the seals, etc, head stock bearings checked, radiator painted (and other bits around about the engine) and numerous other bits done. Canny wait! Just waiting on new brake pads coming from M & P. Woo hoo!
A wee tip - it is much better to have a bag of chips down the front of your jacket acting as a hot water bottle....plus, you also have a handy snack once you arrive home!!

I rode for 20 years with an Arsenal away team scarf, never unravelled or gave me a problem. When I was a lad we all wore football scarfs so we could tie them together to make a tow-rope when one of the RDs or LCs seized.

There's an amusing story about when I got both my laces caught on the pedals of my FS1E when I was 16

when we were but poor young lads ,we couldnt afford winter gear.We popped down to the local army surplus store to buy one of these

If you got one that went down to the floor, then you could cut it up the back, wrap it
around both legs and selotape the things on.
worked a treat. That is unless you got the things wet .

Here's the laces story:

I was riding past the local posh girl's school (Bedford High, the one my two younger daughters and their mum went to) on my FS1E one bright summer day in 1978. There are pedestrian lights outside the main gate and it was around school kicking out time, so a group of us lads would sometimes make our way over to show off for the mini-skirted 6th form babes. Anyway, I was approaching the lights when they started to turn red for a group of girls and as luck would have it I was at the head of the queue. So on with the brakes and come to a stop right up at the line and that's when it all went Pete Tong. I'd caught both laces in my pedals and couldnt get my feet down, BANG! on my side I went with a crowd of giggling schoolgirls walking past.

I looked a complete fool laying there trying to extricate myself from the tangled mess I was in. There was only one up-side to this, I was laying on the floor while 20 or so really fit 15/16 yr old burds walked past flashing me their knickers.

Fast forward many years later and I'm in the front room chatting away to my then girlfriend about the days when we were young and foolish and she recalls the day some nobber on a gold FS1E fell off at the pedestrian lights right in front of her and her mates, so they walked past laughing at him. I had to sit there and tell her it was me and explained what happened so she could be sure it was me too, whereupon she picks up her mobile and started texting her old schoolmates the news. She even told all my mates too.
