not for certain, but looking likely. i guess they plotted graphs from last contact to expected position.

looking at the flight path they'd leave the airport and be over water pretty much straight away.

but the fact an automated signal was transmitted saying they'd hit turbulence the plane may have diverted its course...

that said that information would have appeared on the radar...

Inevitable and incredibly tragic.

yep, BBC website keeps updating on rescue (or salvage now ) progress. Two patches of debris have been reported, 60km apart. A seat and a life jacket are amongst the items spotted but it has not yet been confirmed they are from the plane in question.

this may be hard to put into words....hope it doesnt come across the wrong way...

but what a great task somebody will have to piece together how this happened. totally fascinating. yes, of course great is the wrong word and goes without saying the tragedy is enormous, but this sort of thing really flicks my switch. morbid i know.

what a guff way of explaining! hope somebody undestands it and can put it better!!

The engineering side of working out what happened will be interesting no doubt but I have to say I wouldn't want to work an aircrash - I'd get to emotianally involved. They have to piece together all or the wreckage, including personal possessions etc, I'd find that too hard. Still, a very important job so the same never happens again.

wonder whether it was struck by lightning?

I'm suprised in this day in age how come they haven't got some battery backup signal to send out with a message rather than a black box.

I'm gonna guess lightning struck it and it wasn't potentially charged and just got zapped. Lightning when it goes to earth creates an opposite charge of roughly 10 times the size.

Or it got caught between 2 thunder clouds which had a differential and sheet lightning between the 2 blew it to bits .

By the sounds of it the plane blew to a million pieces rather than crash landing. Gutting, no knowledge of death or body to bury/cremate.
