Nah...it's just either the pan and oil not being hot enough or being too hot.

Best way around it and what I always do is put the pan on over a moderate heat and leave for 3-4 minutes, Using a pastry brush (great if you have a silicone one) dip it into a bowl of melted butter and oil mix and brush it over the bottom of the pan. If it sizzles well without burning, you're good to go. If it burns, lower the temp and clean out the pan. If it doesn't sizzle, increase the heat a little. You shouldn't get any crappy first pancakes this way.

You can do...it's a fat so will do the job but what you have to remember is that it's LARD...real artery clogging stuff.

Personally I wouldn't. It would be more likely to taint the flavour of the pancakes and I would never use it. Better using flora/bertolli/sunflower spreads if you don't have oil or butter TBH.

But what you're forgetting is that it's cheap and I'm a tight northerner

Plus I'm only 11 n a bit stone so I need bulking up lol
