Dogs and animals are more prone to it as the ticks are usually allowed to stay attached for longer so be vigilant.
Well I must have picked up the tic camping at Applecross, where we saw plenty of Red Deer. As I understand it deer can carry Lyme disease so will watch out for it, but nothing seems to be happening yet. Sorry for derail Shell.

OK...sorry for derail Shell, but I think it's worth posting this:-

If you are bitten by a tick or other carrying insect like field spiders, a red rash usually appears within 14 days of the bite occurring. It can however, take up to 30 days sometimes for this inital symptom to show. A red rash will develop that looks a bit like a dartboard. You will have a red outer ring, then a white inner ring and a red bullseye in the centre. If you see this type of rash, go to the doctors. It is worth mentioning here that you can have more than one of these rashes for one bite and they may not always appear at the bite site, but be elsewhere on the body. It is also possible to have Lyme disease without developing this rash. So keep an eye on your general health.

Other symptoms are flu like symptoms........headache, fatigue, muscle pains etc. If you get anything like this, go to your doctors and tell them you had a tick bite.

Also......these symptoms can appear months and even years after the bite, so is harder to relate to the bite then, but a simple blood test can confirm it.

Later symptoms are those that can cause arthritis, heart conditions, paralysis etc.

BUT....like I said, not very common in the UK.

Derail over now Shell xxx

Haha that's not as sick as some of the staff I used to work with at the RSPCA centre...

Hedgehog came into the centre completely tickridden but we'd run out of Vaseline, dun dun duuuuh!! So muggins here was sent down to Sainsbury's to "fetch the biggest pot of the stuff you can find" (thankfully could only find the pocket-sized pots ) then got back and proceeded to smother the wretched things with it. Of course they drop off and next thing we know news has spread like wildfire about the centre that there's a hedgehog in and the room is full of staff wanting to squish 'em! In a paper towel, they make a very satisfying "pop!" I refrained from this immature act of parasitepopping...

Haha.....I'm so jealous....you only have two doing it....lol. They are clearly best buddies, so cute. You also have the exact same rug that I used to have. Only thing is, I bought mine in cream and had to dye it brown after it got ruined by the flippin dogs!

Miss YC......how the hell do you smear vaseline on a hedghog??? I'm picturing you all pushing it down between each and every one of their spines!

I was wondering that. I put olive oil on ticks on a hedgehog, nasty bugs seem to have gone now
