The above applies to number plates, speeding and being a knob in general.
Oh how I wish I could give out a ticket for just being a knob.
Actually, come to think about it I've never given a ticket out to anybody who wasn't being a knob, so I guess indirectly I can, it's just I have to write something like "excess speed" or "Number Plate not in accordance with regulations" on the ticket...

You are all aware by the number of posts over the last five years of the issues regarding loud or illegal exhaust systems and know the consequencies, but as the man says----"Its your perogative"---therefore why complain if you get fined.

err go and get a test ride down your street ........... hey my new bike !!!!!
or just get a baffel fitted.
Most Harley Ferguson's seem to be not only too loud but sound absolute garbage and take too long to get out of earshot.

I don't know of anyone who's painted their bike purple OK that's a lie.. I don't know anyone in Woking who's done that

If you've got illegal exhausts they should first offer you the rectification scheme. This isn't compulsary in law, but most forces have a policy that it's the first option so the officer should have a reason if they don't. One of these reasons is if they've already given you a rectification before, and you've changed the pipe back again, the other most common one is they are on an "anti-biker" op and have been told to zap everybody.

If they do want to stick you on they should offer you a fixed penalty, currently £60 no points, 28 days to pay. They can only give you a fixed penalty for one con and use offence, so if you've got something else wrong with the bike, for example a light out, then they're in a dilemma. They can either ticket you for the most serious defect and warn you for the others, or report you for the whole lot. If they report you for summons it means they have to complete and submit a process file which is a whole lot of work, so you have to be a proper ar5e to talk them into that, or be riding a complete shed. Either way if they do report you expect a summons to court. This is particularly irritating if you are miles from home because you would have to come all the way back to fight it in court. You can usually plead guilty by post but where's the fun in that. If you do end up in court you'll be lucky if the day costs you under £150.

Arguing in court why you didn't have baffles in sounds like a losing battle.

Last time I got fined it was £30 for my 'defective "devinci" Exhaust' , didn't know it'd changed - cheers for the heads up

I have bought a baffle, and will take my chances. Not fitted it yet but I'll post up how I get on.

I had a ride on it today (without baffle) and it is excessive. A lovely noise to be sure, just fecking loud. Especially with the odd backfire. I just hope the baffle doesn't kill the character.

Oh well!

I have a 99 SV with a gold carbon co can oval race exhaust on it (as brought with the bike last weekend) and was planning to change it to a Beowulf legal one when I have the cash. The can has no markings for road use or race or anything really on it at all so would a baffle work for that? Also are baffles cheap to buy and would it make my can legal without any markings?

I must admit I am thinking of the neighbours here tbh as I reckon they'll get hacked off fairly quickly with the sweet sound (to me).
