I like xmas for:

- The time spent relaxing with family and friends, and seeing them happy
- A tastefully decorated tree (not big lit-up plastic crap on someones lawn, or enough outdoor lights to be visible from space)
- Xmas food!
- Moderate and thoughtful gift-giving (if at all- I'm quite happy to just get a card).
- Bing Crosby and Elvis christmas albums (I'm not that old, but it's what was on in our house when I was a kid)
- A strong rum and egg-nog
-Don't mind the cold weather as long as it's not raining -and a good stroll in the crisp air after Xmas dinner is always nice.

I don't like shopping, but despise it at Christmas -the crowds, the noise, and everyone wandering around seemingly brainwashed into thinking that our enjoyment will be proportionate to the amount of money we spend

Love AND Loathe it

Love getting time off with the family and getting presents, hate how expensive it is, how early they start shoving it down your throat.

I love the food and booze, I hate how much weight I put on that needs to be shed in the new year

With my baby girl due in May I imagine the next few Christmass...Christmases...Christmi? ...what the heck is the plural for Christmas?? will be love filled events as it all seems new again

This year the plan (like every year) for Christmas is to throw a bash for family, friends and a group of LD Riders (it's our annual meet) at the family property in the Kimberleys. We don't do any of the usual Christmas stuff like gift giving (except for the kids), trees or decorations, just five or six days with plenty of good food, good wine, good company and a good time. It is a time that we all look forward to.
For those who have the stamina there is also the New Years party.

The commercialism of Christmas is something that we can all happily leave behind.

Well said.

To all the Bah Humbug's I do understand your gripe but IMO Everything is commercialised these days if you think about it. Wherever you look there is money to be made. Mothers day & fathers day are some of the few to mention.

Christmas is only as expensive and as commercialised as you make it.

Merry Christmas Everyone

In my case that should read:

Christmas is only as expensive and as commercialised as my wife makes it.
