Chris,
It is common practice to press stem in to yoke and bearing in same time. You put race on press, than yoke on top of race and than you press stem in both at same time. When you do this you will get that resistance needed to press it in but you can't tell if stem is pressing in both or just one. |

ok.. zadar made a comment about all gsxr stems being the same from 96 onwards. what about pre 96 lets say gsxr 750 1993 what are they like. is it possible for widebhoy to have got an earlier lower tipple by mistake?

1993 is same bearings, so I presume same stem as all the older stuff, slingshots, slabsides etc. They take the same bearings as the curvy.
But the water cooled slingshots have one big lump of a steering stop in the middle, the one widepants has in pics previous shows a lockstop each side, which is SRAD. Either it is wrong, or snapping the bottom end off it expanded it slightly.

If it was me - I'd be inclined to take it apart and make sure it's right, given it's such an important assembly.

All gsxr stems share lower bearing with sv. Pre 96 share both, lower and upper with sv. All gsxr 96 and up share upper and lower bearing. Pointy shares upper and lower with 96 and up gsxr's. Last edited by zadar; 18-12-09 at 03:13 PM. |
