Looking at the various videos of the crash I have to wonder wether the gravel trap tumble was the bit that did the damage rather than the impact.

Well Rossi says he will continue racing as long as he thinks he can win, well surely there is a chance he may not return?! If his broken leg takes along time to heal (more than a month) then he will be unable to keep training (as said in the motogp coverage) and thus unable to keep up/win the races.

Not a hope - he'd need a super-licence, and he just wouldn't be fast enough. Good PR possibly, but he wouldn't have a hope in hell of winning anything. He has the skill and talent to be faster than you or I, but not faster than the guys karting since before they could walk.

I reckon it will take a long time to recover, and then once the leg is recovered he will take more time to get training back to the level he needs to be at, and in that case might not be back to race this year.... but in all honesty I don't think that Rossi will want his career to end this way, he is bound to have at least one more stab at the title.... I hope he does anyways

Did you not see the results of his latest test for Ferrari during the winter?
His fastest lap was I think 0.2 off the lap record, and 0.3 faster than the fastest lap of the race in last year's season....
I think he would be able to finish top 5 easily if he had proper testing and practice time, but in all honesty hope he sticks by his word and doesn't go.

2010 test at catalunya he was in a 2008 car and was nearly 4 secs off the 2008 lap record by Raikkonen (conditions weren't great though). Not saying he wouldn't be quick, just not quick enough to compete.

Ahhhh yes right you are, I apologise about that!!

Back to your original quote to start the thread "surely just a walk in the park for Lorenzo?" I think it was...

I though it definately would be, but Dani has proven that if Honda give him a good setup then he is more than able to challenge Lorenzo, but in the end I think that it is definitely Lorenzo's time to reign supreme.

PS, was nice of Lorenzo to have the sign up today before the race saying "Vale, Everybody can feel pain, but not everybody can be a Legend"

Replacing Rossi at Fiat Yamaha is easy as either Edwards or Spies will move up.

Replacing Tech 3 rider will be much harder...

I wonder if James Toseland has been mentioned...

He rides for Yamaha knows the bike and the tracks.

Elias and other riders will be far more difficult to get hold of as they will be under contract.

Yamaha not replacing Rossi for the next 2 rounds. Does anybody know if Spies could actually replace him given that he is a Rookie and they can't ride for a factory team straight off? Does that rule still apply in these circumstances? I assume it does

Colin Edwards it is then...Strange that they are not filling his boots...no one can replace Rossi but Edwards can at least ride his bike.

Does Spies class as a Rookie though seeing as he has ridden for Suzuki before ?
