Right.... so what your saying is your lack of observations is a dirty trick by the police?

MBK and Toby Smith have said it best - man up, take it on the chin and watch your speed next time - simples

Yep- 37 in a 30, Milton Keynes, some years ago.

I got offered the speed awareness course. Which I took. Bit more money, but no points.

But yes- just take it and use it as a learning experience.

I got away with 3 points and £60 in the new year due to an admin error. Also, I got pulled over at 117 last month and got a talking to (single officer in car, no camera).

I am now riding just that little bit slower- been lucky twice and don't want to chance it...

Owenski: I'm confused about the variable speed limits thing you're on about... as far as I'm aware, the only current variable speed sections on the motorway are on the M25 (speed only) and M42 (full active traffic management).

As I understand it, its only a change of limit if it is accompanied with the red circle border - otherwise, its an advisory notice (and you'll be lucky to reach it).

What the f***ing holy hell for?

"I swear to tell the truth, the half truth and nothing like the truth."

You dodge the law every time you have to yark on the brakes for a camera, why not dodge it a bit more when the law has F'ed up trying to do you for something that wasn't dangerous anyway?

Knowing the law, the necessary burden of proof, and the proper procedures is not to me "not having a pair", it is simply common sense.

Anyway, all this BS about traffic flows, bikes don't cause congestion... so surely we should be exempt from the speed limits

Strange, judging from what I generally see I though they already were....

Didn't see if the OP was done by a camera or a real policeman. If a camera, lets face it they're not popular with anyone, coppers included, and this is a classic example of why. If it was a copper I would suggest there ought to have been some mitigating circumstance to justify doing him, ie: was it outside a primary school at 3pm whilst on the back wheel?

BUT

If the same thing were to happen and I sent it recorded delivery then what I said previously does apply.
Shame I couldn't use that in 2001 when I got done in Ipswich for failing to supply driver details due to the NIP never even arriving.

Law then stated it was up to the defendent to prove the NIP wasn't sent out, which is kind of impossible when the defendent has no access to the ticket office or its records.

Law also stated that the NIP was served once it had left the ticket office regardless of what postal service was used and didn't need to be signed for or sent registered post.

Another case of guilty until proven innocent with no chance of the defendent being able to prove his innocence.

I got screwed for 150 quid and 3 points, and a little bit of my respect for the British judicial system was flushed down the toilet.

Yes those were clearly my exact words, either that or you dont understand how "active" they are, coming back from the NEC they changed a few times in the course of a 20min streatch you have to drive checking them (which is actually quite easy as they are spaced ever 10feet <<< That may be an exageration.

It may well be on the M42, I only see them when coming/going to the bike show at the NEC I know I take the M6 at some point but the M42 sounds familiar too.

{just google earthed it and the route I take does use the M42, suspect its those active traffic management ones then. Im sure it was when Manx was in the car with me we were heading back last year and as the speed changed on the overheads (oh and it is a speed limit red circle etc) just as car passed under it (from my perspective so excuse paralax error). He got flashed once he'd passed the sign 2 very clear bright flashes. I doubt he'd get a ticket IF they look at the times etc but that is if they look at the times and I've no idea if they would or not and so back to lukemiller, thats why I think its a bit of a dirty trick}

Love the way the OP never even told us how he got caught, but everyone immediately assumes it's a camera and a NIP through the post.

Suppose it's too much to ask that wherever he got caught they have police cars with real people in them. I guess it's just not important to get the drunk, uninsured, unlicensed, drugs in car, wanted for some other offence, etc, etc, etc type drivers, so long as we catch those pesky speeders eh?
