How did you make them, are they full carbon parts, carbon covered or just a sticker that looks like carbon? I will be making duplicates of mine out of full carbon fiber and if that is what you did I would be super interested in the process you used.

Thanks

After a slightly drunk night on e-bay i have ordered a fair amount of carbon, and am planning on doing a few smaller bits on the bike such as the infill panels, but am also going to have a crack at doing my lower fairings as they have been down the road and are looking worse for wear. Any Hints or tips about getting the stuff to work around the holes in the fairings?

Worse comes to worse and it looks bad can just pull the stuff off and give them a respray!

I used a pin to ***** a hole and then a Stanley knife to make a cross, then i added heat and pushed inwards and it worked ok.

Any ideas what i should do with the inside of the fairings? I dont really want to wrap the inside as its abit of a waste, but also due to the way you can see the inside from the front i dont really want the outside carbon and the inside blue! Was thinking about just giving the insides a spray black so it cant be noticed.

I just overlapped the edges by about 15mm. Not sure if you really need to paint the inside of the panel but i must recommend cleaning the panel as best as you can.

Did you do your fairing? If so piccy?

Will be taking them off tomorrow and giving them a jet wash followed by ether white spirit or some such to really make sure its dirt free. Will be doing a few practice runs with other parts to get an idea of what im playing with.

Should i clear coat after or leave it?

I haven't done this so not an expert but, if your panels have been down the road I would fill any scratches with filler or they will likely show through the vinyl.

And looking at the link the op posted up it says on there that the vinyl will last up to 4 years if used on the exterior so perhaps giving it a few coats of clear will make it more durable (depending on the quality of the laquer used of course).

Well i managed to do it today.

Bit off more then i can chew i think! That stuff is a pain in the **** to work with on such a large, funny shaped panel. A fair few little glitches and ripples but nothing too major.

Looks good from a distance, just not too close up!

practice makes perfection, after several attempt you will have it looking good but the material aint cheap. ps. dont put lacquer on as it will ruin the carbon look. Try it on a sample piece first if you dont believe me.
