I never rated her at all, all the turning up late/staggering around on stage out of her head was an insult to all the audience that put her there. The media loved her because a good, mostly negative story of her was always guaranteed when she appeared with all her demons and saved them having to make anything up. The fact she had addictions before fame was going to make today inevitable eventually.

Anyone see the Harry Nillson: The Fifth Beatle programme on BBC 2 during the week, this time a talented performer who also couldn't cope with fame and went off the rails. He did make a semi recovery but his health was permanently affected and he died several years early.

OK, I was never a fan of her so called music, infact my personal opinion was she ruined the Zutons classic.

Why was she famous? no real talent apart from marketing her history of drug abuse.

Sad loss, only to her family. The rest of the world probably could not give a ****.

I havent bought a sunday paper today cos I dont wanna read all about her- I was sick of reading about her when she was alive..

however- she was a human being and loved by many friends and family so RIP

She was famous because of the music she released, ie the album Frank, before she became a drug addict.

She won 5 grammy's as a result of releasing Back to Black, and I think, although it may have changed now, at the time she was the only British female solo artist to have won five. She also won two Ivor Novello awards.

Whilst I agree in recent times her talent hasn't been so obvious as she continued with her self destruct, I do believe she was talented and I did like her music. And I will continue to feel sorry for her regardless of what anyone else things.

If thats what fame does for you,not just her but a lot of the names in the limelight seem hell bent on self destruction.

Well said. Not a fan myself, but respect the talent she had, even if she wasted it through the trappings of the industry she is in.

End of the day, it's sad that any life is wasted. But she has left behind some music that has moved not just a few people. I can respect that.

Sums it up for me. A waste of a talent. Back to Black is still my favourite album. She was never a role model and she didnt set out to be one. She was a talented singer/Songwriter and its a sad loss.

I disliked her music her attitude her stupidity and her media inflated importance,

I will not miss her music or her inane ramblings or reported stupidity in the papers, but she is a human life lost and as such my heart does go out to her familly for loosing a loved one.

I may not have been too fussed about her music but at the end of the day she was a 'fellow' human being and I'm sorry she died in such circumstances...
