Fear of being T-boned is ruining riding

Try a local bikesafe course with the old bill -- although I gather you already have done an IAM course ?

Lot of good advice on here, but speaking as one who was t-boned a few years ago, all I can say is get back on and get some miles under your tyres - the nervousness WILL go and you'll be back to normal in no time .

I've felt the same recently Ed. Purely losing interest because of 'what if's' and just seeing people doing ridiculous things every single day. Seems there are more unaware people on the road recently that really don't understand cause and effect, or maybe I just notice it more.

Unfortunately I can't take a break because I use the bike to commute and the alternatives are awful, extortionate and would triple my journey time (public transport).

The wife has had two crashes like this. Both caused by drivers not looking. The first a car pulled out of a side road after being flashed out by a car coming the other way, the second was the guy looking the wrong way up the road and not checking right again before pulling out. I had a close call last week when driving past a school gate, the driver was looking left up the road and pulled out right without looking. Luckily I had seen the crowd and the car and had moved over and slowed a little. When he saw me he slammed his brakes on and crapped himself as I was really close by then. Just gave him the cocked head look implying "did you realy just do that to me you ****?". It's all about looking ahead and planning what might happen. it's not to say it will happen but it's about hazzard awareness.

lots of good advice on this thread. Most of all I would like to be able to calm myself and have prescence of mind to give a driver "the cocked head" rather than swearing like its going out of fashion inside my lid.

Roadcraft is a very dry read, but stick with it because every couple of pages it comes out with a jewel of a piece of advice that makes the dry reading worth it

Although I prefer the Roadcraft because of the details and technicality, there is the new IAM book which summarises Roadcraft and adds a lot of photos and illustrations. I got this in my Bike Safe pack and is much easier to digest, especially if you find Roadcraft boring in places.

I would second this, the IAM book is more accessible and if there was any part I wanted more information on, I dug out my Roadcraft book. Funny, I got the IAM book the same way as Maxinc, on my FBoS course.
