for me off road rewarding is nothing a gs can do, weight is the killer, if I was serious about off roading in scotland I'd suffer a good of road bike getting up there, if (as most do) I would take a good road bike (if the knee allowed it's be an S3.
I've tried grass tracking, pre-65 trials and enduro as well as what used to be scrambling, those are off road to me, a bit of gravel and the odd pot hole I can manage on a road bike without difficulty.

I'd get a standard 1200 GS, or a Super Tenere. Been on both and they are great bikes IMO. An adventure style bike is on the list for my next bike

OK, I'm not going to convince you that the adventure bike genre has it's place in the motorcycling world.

not the question I asked, there are plenty of bikes that aren't to my taste, but as the sales show they still sell

I'll just add, I'm massively into my sports bike however I have a misses and after to many crashes I'm thinking I'd like something like this.
Something I can jump on and ride to Spain etc easily. Have a bike I enjoy to be on rather than enjoy being scared by.... |

One selling point that has'nt been mentioned, and I find that surprising, is the "self-image" aspect. Few GS riders are considering blasting across the majestic savannahs of Umbongoland or screeching to a halt in the car-park of the Tashqent Mujihadeen & Taliban Working Mens Club. But you're implying to the world that you COULD do that, or already have done. In the same way that the Panigale or Fireblade rider is implying that he's capable of wringing it's neck 'round Cadwell or the retired dentist on the Springer Softail is hoping that everybody will think he's Sonny Barger's minder. Different strokes and all that. It's what makes life interesting. ![]() Wait 'til Femaleacid's been for a ride on it. She'll be planning trip's to Tierra del Fuego via Ulan Bator stopping off at Wagga-Wagga, just you wait and see. ![]() |

A 2009 R1200GS?
It's out of warranty then - have you pre-ordered a final drive unit, gearbox and a brake servo yet? |
