Great footage lol
Its a road you need to know like the back of your hand to ride fast
Your mistake was you did not ride your own road !
Always focus on your own road and ignore other bikes ect. This will make you faster and far safer !
If your faster than the guy in front then bide your time for a safe and simple pass !

There was another air ambulance on this road, the cat and fiddle, on sunday when i tried to pop over to macc on the vfr.

It seems, some people cant even manage the first few corners out of buxton.

Ouch! Lucky he didnt take someone out in the process. As a new biker I wonder how long it will take for me to loose my sense of road safety and replace it with over confidence. I was out the other day with two older riders and in two hours you could count the number of lifesaver checks they did on one hand.

Aslong as you check your mirrors properly and regularly, there really isnt much need for as many life saver checks they tell you to do for your test.

My trainer told me that a few years ago, and he used to teach the police how to ride

I disagree, it's quite easy for a vehicle to not be in your mirrors then in your blind spot and you not see it at all, if you change direction or lanes, then look in to the space you want to fill, the only 100% certain way IMO.

Somewhat a general comment about life savers. Bur if you do move in a lane or turn another bike will easily fit in the space a mirror misses

You can't be sure so the few seconds a shoulder check takes why risk it. Not like you need to turn your head like an owl is it

You can fit a car in that space.

So, who does a life saver on both sides before setting off every time then?

When setting off is probably not the best test of when a life saver (as opposed to a shoulder check) is necessary as generally it's very easy when stationery to check for approaching traffic from behind with your mirrors, and anything that would be missed in your mirror will be past by the time you let the clutch out....

Making a full on lane change or even a subtle change of position when amongst other traffic traveling at about your speed is when shoulder checks are at their most useful, a lifesaver (which is a complete turn of the head so that you can actually see behind) is generally only useful when turning right into a minor road as it promotes a full 180 degree scan into the space you are about to cross.

Staying on topic I don't think any number of lifesavers or shoulder checks was going to help this fellow........
