Fine if you actually aspire to own a plastic rocket.................

..............I'd prefer a CB1300 or a Z1000

........Only after ive had my final say!
Figures are not the be all and end all. Have you actually ridden the SV?
On the road, it comes down to where the power is produced in the rev range and the fact is that it is produced lower down and therefore much more usable on a V Twin. I dont want to rev the balls out of a machine to get it to work which is what you have to do with the Hornet!

True - but you started it with the "less of this" and "more of that". I just quantified it for the benefit of the uninformed

Bit like the "Hornet has a pants tank range" comment of yesterday in another thread. I'm all for healthy discussion, but lets do it from a position of knowledge

Doesn't that depend also on the bike's gearing?

Not strictly true - for example, my bike will pull cleanly from about 1500revs in 4th. It was this user-friendliness and tractability that won the day (and my wallet) for the Hornet. For the newbie that I am (or was), it is the easier bike to ride. For me, that is.

However, I do agree that to get the fastest acceleration I need to be in the powerband - say 5000 to 12000rpm - but that's a healthy powerband and the engines not actually all that peaky compared to many 4-pots, particularly the supersports ones.

And revving it is great fun

Nothing wrong with the SV (and I challenge anyone on here to find a post of mine which slags the bike off), but each to their own eh?

This is probably irrelevent now, but I'm gonna post it anyway, just cos I feel like it.

I don't think it's the slightest problem to discuss another bike alot on this forum, after all, it was done in Biking Issues.
I would be bored to tears if we just sat here day after day discussing only the SV.
Like Jabba says, numbers are just numbers, you have to ride a bike and make your own judgement.
I think when comparing bikes that are relatively similar (like the SV and Hornet) you shouldn't sit there and say the SV (or Hornet) is better, because you don't know what goes on inside another riders head.
I love my SV but I also quite like the look of a Hornet, and maybe one day if I'm on the lookout for a naked bike, I might consider it.

Btw, b*ll*cks to political correctness, that's not the reason I said that stuff.
I said it purely because I like motorbikes, in all shapes and sizes, even choppers, in a way.

.........okay, but the roll on times in the higher gears are better for the SV.
and, compared with the SV you DO have to thrash the Hornet.
Horses for courses. If i was in the market for a superbike, whilst the R1 is arguably the faster bike, I would go for an Aprilia RSV any day due to the same reason i chose the SV over the Hornet. Sound and drive.
Im guessing this is the reason mose people on here bought their SVs, but who knows! Please dont take this personally Jabba. Its just that work is a little slow this afternoon!

Thanks for that Steveo. I was beginning to feel outnumbered by the Hornet Owners on this SV site! .....and before you all have a go at me about being a biking xenophobe, lighten up. Its all a bit of fun. I think.
