awww man. i'm quite drunk an i've clicked post comment for somethin'... o yeah. milage. i don't think it's quite so much how far you go so much as how fast you go there. so to avoid numb bum syndrome go faster less time spent on bike and you have the air coming up under your arms lifting you gently off the seat.

(This post seriously isn't BASAT compliant. don't go silly speeds to save your bum some numbnes

doesn't work that way, the faster the pace, the faster you get tired, the key to avoiding monkey butt is what you underwear you wear

ther first SS1k that I did, 700 miles was in rain and took me 18½ hours to ride 1076 miles

I'm really, really quite drunk... so nothing i say is to be taken seruiously at this point. i think the biggest factor to take into consideration is the bike. When i went the long way to aberdeen (south then north ) on a 50cc bike i was in agony. 230 miles of torture (i'm 6 foot 2 and this thing was tiny) te journy took 12 and a half hours with just one stop. i done the same trip on the SV. it took 2 and a half hours with no stops, and not a bit of cramp/pain. so combination of bike and ability to go above 40 made for a smooth trip.

Going faster takes more concentration, but i've found that just keeps me more on edge. i've had very little time to get tired and aslong as your ready and prepaired for it 400 odd miles isn't going to wittle you down too much... anyway.. less drivle more drink

I appologise for the amount of crap i may have spewed tonight (both metophoricly and physicaly)

Not on an SV, but many years ago now, three of us, all on 70's CB750s, did La Escala on the Costa Brava to Angers in the Loire valley in a rather long day. We didn't use autoroutes either - scared of tolls. That must have been 550 miles (ish). We got to Angers just in time to eat at a small restaurant and crash overnight in a bus shelter next to the river. The next day I had to ride to Cherbourg, take the ferry to Southampton and then ride home all with a most awful dose of gastroenteritis.

oh yes. underwear makes a huge difference in comfort factor. learnt that one on the annual rideout... wont be wearing lace patterned undies for long trips again

270 miles a couple of weeks ago with the SV1000 annual rideout. This was from the Cotswolds into Wales (Abergavenny Builth Wells and back). Bund were a bit achy and I was doing a Rossi standup every 20 miles by the end,
