It tend to agree with you K. The fact that they didnt bow to massive pressure to execute this man, and instead saw sense and spared him his life albeit in return for a life in a small cell, shows that they are indeed capable of making intelligent decisions.

My estimation of the American system and beleifs has gone up somewhat following this.
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

One American's perspective...
There wasn't a HUGE outcry for wackin' him out, just a noisy one. Death sentence was technically justifed IMO (and that of the court BTW) but not deemed appropriate for the particulars of his involvement and the concept of 'punishment', which to him would have been no punishment at all.

He is going to a supermax facility. One room. No human contact, even with guards is very occasional. No sunlight. I believe he gets 30 min to an hour of time alone in an exercise room.

I'm afraid he won' t enjoy it.

Most TV sux. If you think ours is bad, you should see the spanish speaking stations (geared towards Mexican) - horrific. I don't really watch TV outside of occasional news and nature/history documentaries- rent DVDs mostly. We have a great company over here called 'Netflix' that sends them by mail.
To be fair, your shows they send over here seem to be a full diaper load as well. They are only on public TV so at least no commercials. The good stuff we used to get from you has faded away.

No reruns of I, Claudius anymore.

Tbh its why I dont have a TV. I really only miss the history and discovery channels.

I make up for it by reading books. If you like I, Claudius I can recommend some good reads on Roman History. One subject I have a lot of.

Living in solitary in a cell with no windows for the rest of his life - at 37 - I'd have wanted the death sentence too.

I can't imagine they'd allow him to hunger strike and I doubt the guards will let him have a nice painting set like they did Dr. Hannibal Lecter! You wonder how much information he has that the authroities will find useful in a few years time so he's going to be left to go more insane than he is now alone and in silence. As long as Michael Moore doesn't make a movie of him!

Joe, do you think you could go a whole day without watching the news/reading a paper?

I believe that this case is a travesty of justice and he should be released in to the community.

Yep, right next to Ground Zero on a busy day! With pomp and circumstance.

giving this guy the death sentence would have given him the martyardom he would have wanted.

with the solitary confinement/surroundings he is going to be in, this guy is going to rot fast.
