"Delivery not available via internet on this item" What's the point in me getting broadband if they can't FTP me a camera?

Anyway. Those are all more or less the same generation and ballpark as my antique Kodak, which is now senile but, while it lasted, was pretty fine. So, I'd definately look into it reviews-wise and see what they say. They're all physically fairly large, mind. That's one of the things that's making me want to upgrade, mine is just a hair bigger and it's a pain in the **** to carry around.

I've got a Nikon 4600 Coolpix, I'm very pleased with it, its great for snaps / point and shoot type work.

Hovi5 the photos I took of my lowers the other night were taken on one of those.

all the new digi ixus cameras take cracking pictures northy.

but there aint many digicams good in low light, unless you start getting to dslr levels.

sony have a camera with zero lux focusing using infrared. cant remember the model but i think its gonna be a tad large for you.

look at the ixus's specially the ones with the large 2" or 2.5" displays on the back. and you won't go far wrong for a point and shoot. the newer ones also have a very good 640 x 480 30fps video mode as well

Thanks Amarko! I was leaning towards the IXUSs anyway, since they're pretty

Do you know if there's any compacts with better mic capabilities? Or maybe a line in? I brought back a selection from Reading with some good footage, and a lot of cylon noises since the internal mic's basically no good. I don't mind, it's not supposed to be a video camera, but if I can do better that'd be great.

most everything has been discussed. I'm a big Ixus fan, had a S400 for 3 or 4 years now, brilliant little tool and the latest generation are significantly "better" (faster, cheaper, excellent movie etc).

I second http://www.dpreview.com/ for good info, look in "cameras" and select the make, model, and see the owners' reviews for real life opinions which are as useful as the technical reviews.

2 places good for memory
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/defa...777&r=20051123
http://www.valuemedia.co.uk/

also batteries
http://www.eurobatteries.com/default.asp
got a generic battery for the S400 and it's worked equally as well as the canon branded one for a fraction of the price.

Looks like I'm sorted too- IXUS 800 IS seems the likely target. Usually out of my range but I found one with damaged packaging but otherwise as new for a good discount. It's either that or an IXUS 65 but I can't see any benefit to that really... Anyone going to tell me not to? Quick!

A tiny sensor with so many dots is a recipe for noise, also from experience, Canon QC can be a tad iffy. I have the IXUS 50, great size just plain unreliable. It shouts out for a new battery, insert a newly charged canon one and its still not happy it just will not work, leave it a day and its fine again. Sometimes its great with no problems though, just cannot depend on it really. I'd not get another one on this experience. My vote goes to Nikon, Olympus or Pentax. I dunno maybe I'm just really lucky
