Not quite so, if you lock the rear then release & re-apply the brakes, that's fine for a pass. You managed to control the skid, therefore showed skill on the bike. No real need to be so paranoid.
Indeed! I locked my rear on the test - only got a minor. It was wet so I don't know whether than gets taken into account?

Thanks guys ... OK all those going to NEC passing through Stafford are welcome for a coffee if I am not working and I will be choosing the biccies

Need2Ride - I am terrified god knows why but my other half has rang the bike place up and arranged for me to go in Saturday morning and they will give me some cones to kill on the car park.

Hope it kills the nerves too !

Shelly, as you've been told a lot in this thread lol, practice makes perfect. So long as you don't fall off the bike & hit tarmac, just have fun on saturday!

Also, I'm def going to the NEC, but my route down may take me down the A5, then back upthe M6 & across snake pass to sheffield the day after. Not sure yet, but I'll be in the area 28th/29th Oct.

Not sure when your test is, but a ride beats a coffee hands down & it'd be great if you've passed by the time I'm that way (no pressure or anything).

My test is on 16th October, I just looked and am working weird shifts those two days, I have 4pm onwards free on 28th and have to be at work at 3pm on 29th so dunno if that's any good.

If that don't happen we will have to arrange a NEWBIE ride for me I will lead and you all can get frustrated following me hee hee hee

Heh, newbie ride sounds good. Maybe get a group (there's some folks from shrewsbury, b'ham area etc) & welcome you to the forum properly I'm pretty open about dates so long as I'm not on-call.

Really not sure what I'm doing yet, but 28th I might kip in Oxford then back up 29th am to sheffield. Will have to see how things plan out with mates shifts etc.

Good luck on the test, and you never know, pass & you might get to see lil ol' me in your mirrors!

P.S. Never EVER get frustrated sat behind anyone. I do that & I focus on them too much, loose concentration on what I should be focusing on. Someone is moving too slow, and my left foot goes now once or twice, right wrist goes back & I wave Don't do that if I'm SUPPOSED to be riding with folks though.

So another U-turn or two and thats that "myth" I had concocted for myself sealt with.
i think that my issue with it is that its more awkward, it is just not a great position to do it in compared to naked bikes, plus i feel like the weight is distributed such that it will start to go quicker should i attempt it (but i think that might just be the fact it's bulkier up top than a naked bike). mind you i have done "sort of" u turns, basically where there is no kerb to hit...

My instructor said "You're pretty good with the front- don't use the rear at all, the instructor can't tell as long as you're foot's in the right place". Seemed to work

For those of us that are so old we took a part 1 and part 2... I locked my rear wheel on the part 2 as it was raining cats and dogs - cadence braked to a rapid stop and passed no problem. Show control and you'll be fine.
