I found that way to slow and arty, despite the one excellent scene which was a great idea. Just ruined by lots of boring arty shots, like the 15 minutes AFTER the twist and climax that just let me down again. Preferred Old Boy more, and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance 2nd.
Oldboy was a better film, no argument there - but I kinda liked the way this film was a slow-burning build up to the pay-off, I think it sort of matches the way the main character goes about getting her revenge - very methodical and pre-meditated. Oldboy was just a shock to the senses from start to finish!

While we're talking about Korean films - anyone seen Brotherhood? It's been called the Korean 'Saving Private Ryan' because of the way it's filmed, but it's way better!

Oooh good thread.

After looking through my External Hard Drive (nearly hit 300 films woo) I would choose the following:

Grave of the fireflies
Spirited Away
The Pianist
Mulholland Drive
Man on Fire
Cool Hand Luke
Garden State
United states of Leland
Requim for a Dream
The Constant Gardener
The Notebook (I love the story, acting is brill)

I tend to like poignant films, one's that make you think. I am a fan of good old blood n' gore and have loads of comedies but primarily, I want to take soemthing away from a film (bit cheesey I know)

I watch all my films on my projector and decent home cinema amp so it makes ANY crap film, good. (apart from "date movie"....<<shudder>>)

Law - Ghost dog - Ace film, Forrest's best film.

EDIT - Just noticed Northwinds, funny that we have 2 not so popular films in our lists!

I also got the book Hagakure (dunno where it is now) which the film had quotes of. Was very interesting to read into the samurai philosophy and conduct.
