I was in Edinburgh a few years back and witnessed a car coming along a 2 lane road that narrowed to 1 lane crashing into fixed bollards at enough speedtoo rip it out of the ground, thankfully the second bollard in the row stopped the now slowed car dead before it careered down the pedestrian area.

Poor driving causes accidents!

These people looked to be trying it on, there is another video clip somewhere which shows the sliver car trying to nip through, but managing to stop in time, reversing and trying again after another bus only to get impaled.

We have something similar locally except it is a canal bridge on hydraulic rams, if you try and nip through you run into 3 feet of steel and concrete being lifted above road level or if you are very late you can squeeze your car through the 3 ft gap (without your roof) into the canal.

Theres been a few colisions including one guy who overtook 4 cars waiting as he thought he'd timed it just right and ripped his front axel off, or the other guy who didnt see the warning signs, flashing lights or high viz bridge attendant and crowd of onlookers, but did see the raised bridge at the last minute and swerved into the concrete bollards that protect the pavement.

Good enough for them.
