Well, they must have been ****ing lying on my Police Advanced instructors course then eh?

You have all the answers then why ask the questions?

I didn't say that you 'bang down on the box' did I? I said that using gears to slow down makes a smoother ride.

When you start to ride your second (bigger) bike you may learn something.

As it is, unless you are racing you won't need a slipper on the baby SV.

Was that the sound of someone chucking their toys out of the pram?

Cheers

Well its basicly like that, but sure someone like Sid Squid will give a more technical answer. The more expensive ones are of a more elaborate design.
That's how they all work, the more expensive ones have some adjustability but no functional difference really. Irrelevant on a road going bike anyway. If you need a slipper clutch you're already going way, way faster than is wise on the road, it aids performance in a way that is entirely unnecessary.

I put the most important word in bold.
Wanting one, on the other hand, is a different matter and is quite acceptable, so long as it's not visible from the outside (I'm a bit anti-bling)

If you have a spare £500-£600 to throw at your bike then go for it.

O'course, £5-600 would buy a lot of suspension work...Which I bet you a crisp scottish pound note would make more of a difference to road riding.

I cannot argue with the comments of His Sidness. As referred earlier my contemplating of such a component does stem from riding pretty close to the edge and hence my appreciation as to where and when one would be of value to me.

It aint about blingness as with gold vented clutch cover and red pressure plate many would imagine my bike has a slipper clutch anyway. It is more about me identifying how one might benefit myself.

Maybe I just got to tone the whole thing down in readiness for my progression to the ranks of the "roll on the gas, roll off the gas" Goldwing riders.

Perhaps from a safety aspect it also gives one less thing to be thinking about as you can merely concentrate on positioning and entry point as you finish your braking.

I do not though see the slipper clutch as some kind of panacea that will cure all rider failings, but as mentioned by others just a confidance boosting back up at times whereby the rider knows that even if he does make a pigs ear of a gear change the rear wheel is not going to take on a life of it's own.
That last bit of your post is the only one I agree with. If you think a slipper is what's stopping you changing gear quickly you just need to practise your downchanges more - blipping your throttle properly lets you chuck the clutch out just as quickly as as a slipper - the problem's in your head.
