Love,romance,blah,blah. It's all a commercialised plot you do realise that? Just like the drivel you see portrayed in movies it is all BS. None of it happens among real people. Yet so many allow themselves to get suckered in to the hearts and roses shenanagins!

Love is the most wonderful thing with the right person. I pity those of you so battered by love that you fear it or those that profess not to believe in it. The highs of being in love are huge, but unfortunately the lows match that (almost)

Heading towards the bottom of the lowest of lows at the moment, but still optimistic about love.

The most beautiful thing about life is also the scariest.... its that anything can happen at any minute. Being cynical is the best way to punish yourself and more often than not the product of a soul thats met too many closed doors. You may fall in love, win the lottery, kill someone in an accident or lose a loved one. All these things may happen in the same hour. The important thing is to stay in the game. Know that things will change and however bad you may feel now the joy of contrasts will be yours as you rise out of it. Everybody has got things going for them that they cant see . Finding beauty in something for the first time , remembering you're not perfect, forgiving yourself and looking to be a complete beginner are the way forward. It's the scariest place to be. It's the opposite of cynicism and also the opposite of a pat on the back. It's daunting to know you've got a long way to go. But the realisation opens up the best life has to offer.

but if theres a difference between affection for someone and love, they must be two different thought processes, otherwise its just a sliding scale with no defined border.

BBC I am sorry to hear about your mate it's never nice when people get hurt by the thoughtlessness of others.

Best thing to do though is to pick yourself up and move on.. plenty more fish in the sea as they say

You see this "romance and love" thing it just does not make sense for normally intelligent and sensible people. Marketing and commercialism brainwash people as to how to behave in such situations and frankly nothing is fresh or new.

Oh a box of chocolates, look a bunch of red roses, La Perla undies, a candle lit dinner. A card for every occasion and moment..."Today I watched you blink and my heart skipped a beat." Oh please!

All of those gushing miss pelt text messages and emails with too many icons to be considered healthy.

It's all about conforming to how a romantically attached person is perceived to behave. Programmed unwittingly by magazines and hype.

There is no harm in finding a partner that you like and think a lot of, but all this emotional cheesiness does no good at all. You can be on pins in case your "original" treat does not quite hit the right spot, you can feel guilty that your gesture maybe was not enough. An emotional roller coaster that serves no good purpose but to keep till bells ringing around the world.

The proof that what I say is oh so true is the fact that a bloke rarely feels comfortable about proclaiming to his partner...."I love you." Whereas the female who is more likely to be more wrapped up in the rules of the game will be almost insistant upon making such declarations, and on a regular basis. The female has been programmed to believe that for a person to state such a phrase is the only way of indicating ones true feelings. Utter balder dash in my mind.

Emotional detachment is the only way forward. You know I am right. Admit it.
