It could be down to how you ride it. On sports bikes you very rarely "actively" counter steer, just move your body position a little and you "should" move the bars too. Well, that's how it works for me....

With the dynamics of the steering, trying too hard to push the bars seems really odd and unnatural. You can't really give them a big tug to get the bike over, it's more subtle than that.

Having said all of this, on a modern SS600, you should only have to think "turn" and it's doing it. If that's not the case then something ain't right....

I'm thinking maybe the one I rode was a bad 'un. The dealer had 24 hours notice that I wanted a test ride and if he can't be arsed to put the suspension back to standard and pump the tyres up then he's not getting my money.

The big fella is right. Modern SS600's have the handlebars angled so that you are countersteering whether you realise it or not. When we went on the Norf - Sarf ride last year, Fizzwheel remarked on how quick my bike turned in, so a bike that is reasonably well set up should turn pretty darn quick. Mine certainly turns in quicker than my old SV did.

Ah I remember that, it was on the afternoon bit where when we stopped you proclaimed "now thats a rideout"

My GSXR turns in quick, but I can remember looking in my left hand mirror and you being on a tigher line than I was. But that could also be due to differences in our riding styles.

Most unlikely it's a bad un mate. Already said if the suss is at 4/5 rings showing on the front then that's the factory setting. More likely tyres or the bike was too small for you.

Test a 600f - i'm certain you'll find it most enjoyable.

Northy - yours doesn't really count as a standard sv No more wrist reminders please - going for ultrasound on my left wrist again - feckin nightmare.

Fizz, this is Scoobs you're talking about.... He had a brown trouser moment, had to turn late and was lucky to make it
