That does actually look really good. I'm impressed-but I ain't the DIY type so well chuffed with mine.

I do like the "security" I percieve of the Suzuki one, it's throughly bolted down, makes me feel safe. Also, the only reason I went for the sukuki one is no pillions so it'll stay there (the bracket) permanantly, and will just sell with the bike.

It's a good option though, yours, I always thought it would look crap but it's very neat.

And every normal Givi system has a simple clip and two prongs securing the box to the rack, which is out in the breeze on two long arms. The Suzuki one is good but it's overkill, basically providing a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Surely a top box packed 10-20kg isn't going to cause as much stress on the pillion seat as a 70-100kg pillion.

I used to fit an oxford tail pack onto my pillion seat that was way overloaded at times (a good 15kg) and about twice as high as the top box. That was secured by a few bungees and some velcro straps i never had any problems. This looks the way forward too me!!

Maybe I'm being too cautious but I wouldn't trust that system. But I do agree it looks better

I know what you mean but when you see a tall soft tail pack strapped onto the pillion seat and then see FG1's concept then i think i'd trust his version over the oxford one!!!

Which is why I went for the SW-Motech rack, it may be more expensive than the other options, but it is more solid and looks better too.

Nobby, the only thing I don't like about your solution is that the rack stays on the bike.
The reason I did it my way was so that it could be put back to "normal" in a matter of seconds. Also it keeps the bulk right behind the rider which, I would imagine, helps with any handling issues. And not forgetting the fact that it is significantly cheaper than splashing out on a new rack to take the fixing plate.

I know what you're saying, although I tend to pack quite a bit of stuff in my bag so would be worried your (very good) solution might not take it.

I don't think the rack looks too bad when left on (it's far better than the Givi arms) and the plate goes on and off in a matter of seconds. Also, as Nobbylass tends to go pillion quite a lot of the time, it's really the only viable option.
