Start by striking up a converstation. Forget cheesy chat-up lines - the easiest way to do this is to just smile and say Hello. Just chat to her, ask her about her work. If she's spoken for, she'll probably mention this in conversation. Watch her body language. Does she seem interested. If so, then ask her if she'd like to go for a drink (even if it's just for coffee).

Kinvig, You need some dutch courage. I find that helps, though having too much and puking afterwards doesn't.

I remember when i used to get the train to work there was this girl who used to get on one station after me and she always used to smile at me, this went on for a couple of months and eventually i knew i was going to stop getting the train...

i bottled it over and over again so on the very last day as we got off i hander her a piece of paper with my number on it, smiled and walked off.

it worked and she called a little bit later...

try it... wuss's way out worked for me !
