The crux of this whole issue is cold starting. Almost all engine wear is caused when the engine is cold, something the car/bike industry have never cured. Why should they....they don't want your engine lasting too long right? If ZX1 does coat the bearing surfaces and stick and it can prevent cold metal to metal objects wearing each other as is well documented, then it has to be capable of preventing wear during engine start up which is the whole idea of using it in the first place! Innit? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

More than 40 years ago there was a product which offered protection when starting from cold, it 'coated' the bearing surfaces so that wear was a thing of the past yadayadayada. It was called 'Molyslip' and contained the wonder ingredient Molybdenum Disulphide or some other bllx. Had you thinking that your engine was going to last forever.. What a load of tosh.. This stuff sounds similar.

But you believe all the stuff the industry push at you then like magnetic particles that help cold starting? Sounds like black-magic to me! What helps you decide who the liars are?
I look back in history at the vast number of times the car industry have deceived the public and they keep on doing it! Remember Suzuki denying that the SV1000 had a crank problem?? ![]() |

Read this then! It all seems like good solid sales pitch to me but do you believe it? It can't be any worse than your existing oil can it? Save the planet anyone??
This could be my next purchase as I have requested they put synthetic in my bike instead of mineral. If its good enough to lube very expensive systems ie jet aircraft, quarry trucks, submarines, spacecraft etc....then its good enough for my bike! http://www.amsoil.com/articlespr/art...eatdebate.aspx |

Ok - Hands up who here has actually run a vehicle to the point where the engine has effectively been worn out?
The point I'm trying to make is that normal wear and tear is unlikely to see the end of an engine in the modern consumerist day and age. The bike or car will have been chopped in for a newer model long before the engine gives. Even going through further owners a car is likely to have it's chassis rust or else another expensive component fail or a bike have forks pit \ bearings wear out etc to an uneconomical to repair state before the engine gives. So in terms of cold start wear I'm really not worried. However I would like my engine to have best possible protection from high engine temperatures, high revs, possible late oil changes, possible low oil levels. Etc. So don't need a 'magic' oil. I just need a decent quality oil, designed to do this job and I'm happy to change it as suggested intervals, not because it needs it but becauses it reduced the risk of a freak catastrophic failre - which can and does happen if levels get to low, or you over rev it etc etc. |

If you've convinced yourself that decent oil isn't good enough, and that everyone is trying to rip you off, and engines will wear out if you don't, then put whatever you like in it and sleep easy, simple as that.
Next!

But thats what AMSOIL is dude, just top quality synthetic but when tested outperformed every other brand in the test including Castrol & Mobil1. Now the price test, as long as they don't want a fortune for the stuff its on my shopping list!
One point about the low friction cold start thingy embee, if this stuff does what it says then you could go for perhaps 50,000 miles without adjusting yer valves, now that has to be a good thing! ![]() I'm just trying to get a nice balance whereby the cost is kept low, the maintenance is minimal, the reliability is increased so I can enjoy riding more with added peace of mind. Just changing the oil isn't going to give me that! Always searching for summat better! ![]() |
