I raced a Holden Monaro (or Vauxal as they have been rebranded) a couple of years back. He had a rolling start at the lights as they were going amber green when we were pulling up to them. He got ahead of me and I started to catch up again - flew past him at 110 and thought I was so cool. I got home to check the spec on the car as I had a nagging feeling something wasnt right. His torque figures were enormous and top speed of 160 mph...

I decided then and there it was time to trade the SV. Couldnt handle getting my butt kicked. Only ever tried it again on a Porsche Cayman 4 thingy as he was driving like a nob - or is it knob) - anyway I thought I would join him for a bit.

One thing I dont do is race other bikes off the line - I dont really see the point in this...? Plus I'm rubbish at filtering so they always get me after.

From 70 onwards though

Gmonster, aye, various ranging form 320bhp odd up to the supercharged VXR500 with 500bhp... For £35k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not insane acceleration, but smooth power all the way up the revs. Any gear, any speed, plant the throttle and it'll pull all the way up to about 170mph odd (standard 400bhp VXR version).

Top speed sucks, accelerations where its at.

Actually, i had a 07 R6 ask me for a play off some lights on the bandit (top box on too ). He pulled ahead obviously, but not by much at all, was quite suprised. Otherwise, thats the only bike light play i've had in 8 years road riding....

More fun braking into corners and such.

Thats why i love both cars and bikes, each offer different thrills and experiences in different ways.

I find most of the cars down here are too slow to race off the lights, i just let them get past me at the lights to satisfy there ego, then wheelie past them on the dualie. Bikes are more interesting becasue you know you are equally matched. i never race anyone when they dont want to. when im at the lights, i tend to go off easy, and if i hear/see them start to pull away then i floor it and race. still not big or clever...but it is fun.

Saw the best thing this afternoon. A fella on an MT 01 and someone on another sports bike I didn't catch pulled up at some traffic lights in Kilburn. I was on foot. A kid came up to the lights on a pushbike and was saying to the unidentified bike "Race? wanna race?". It made me grin from ear to ear.

Near my home there's a lot of young kids "cruising" in modified cars (and 2 -3 fatal accidents a month!). A lot of them do try to race you, they just wanna look big in front of thier mates, and see if thier car can take on a bike.

Was on a left curved motorway two lane slip on Wednesday in the outside lane, overtaking a row of cars in the inside lane nice and easy. A boy racer in a hot hatch had chased me round an was on my tail. The two lanes merged into one a hundred yards after the bend. It was another hot hatch at the front of the row of cars in the inside lane. As I drew past him the little ***** looked over, then floored it to race me to the lane merge. I had no where to go but forwards, so I had to lean in and open up, toes touching down as I powered through the wider bend of the outside lane.

Not a huge problem, but I'd have been left trying to slot into the row of cars behind him if the road had been wet and I couldn't power through, and the little ***** behind me was determined to get in on the action too so slowing down wasn't too appeaing either. Left the two hot hatches behind and they nearly came to blows at the lane merge.

My problem with boy racers is thier age and experience. The foot goes down long before the brain engages, and if the brain does engage, it usually makes a silly decision. They are far too unpredictable for my liking and I don't like having them around me when I'm on two wheels.

Anybody noticed an increase in normally sane adults in cars and vans getting road rage when you filter thru to the front at a set of traffic lights in town? They get all upset and determined to beat you off the lights. The inertia of a tonne of metal means they have no chance, but you still see them sitting next to you edging forward and revving. It's Edinburgh I've noticed this change most. Glasgow drivers have always been nuts.

Which is why when I filter to the front of a queue I put myself right in front of whoever's at the front. Stops them trying to cut you off. I've never had a problem doing this as opposed to pulling up on between traffic at the front. Risk being squashed then.

Yup. I've been told I filter "Like a ****ing savage", by one of our couriers Really overtly aggressive moves, never stop slowly when I can stop hard, never sit on the edge when I can stick it right up the middle, stuff like that. It's the only thing I do particularily well on a bike tbh. Since I started this, I've basically had no bother at all from people I've filtered past, I think the thought just doesn't start.

-Ralph, aye theres some really headcase people in the scottish coasts. Gets really bad from what i hear. Not something proper car enthusiasts would do.

But I agree with everything else you say about young boyracers. Hence why there are so many young accidents.

And those types are the ones branded as boyracers and give everyone else the bad name.
