Presumably if the IP address was banned then any legitimate user who might want to post on the forum would be denied access too?

It is possible that another forum user who uses BT ADSL for his/her ISP (or any company like mine who white labels and resells BT ADSL connections) could pick up the same IP address, but it would be a freak occurrence given the number of users on this forum versus the number of BT ADSL subscribers.

DD has used addresses from 10 different ranges of addresses. All of Becks addresses are from the same ranges except 1. All of Geoffrey's are from the same ranges except three. Becks has posted from exactly the same IP as DD in the case of four different addresses, Geoffrey in the case of 7 different addresses.

To give you an idea of how much unlikely a co-incidence it is, that they are not on the same ADSL connection, those ten ranges contain over 650 thousand addresses, not all of those have to be handed out to ADSL customers, but given that the one exchange he is connected to has 17000 ADSL users which can serve a maximum of an 8 mile radius, I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

So for two people to get the same address 7 times, or three to get it 4 times, AND all three to be active members of this forum who just happened all to post in the time they had that address? Less likely than winning the lottery. And to have such a small number of individual addresses in all the time DD has been a member, shows that his DHCP address has only been changing...well you divide the number of different addresses there, buy the number of years he has been a member. Once every 1-2 months?

You could also get the same IP addresses for any other user who works at Network Rail, if the IP used by that other user is one of the first four addresses.

Yes, TSM could ban IP addresses, but if you ban a list that long, one day you will hit that freak occurrence when a genuine user can't get in. We actually had a problem last week, where I thought exactly that may have happened. Turned out not to be a banned user, but a misconfiguration, but it was a problem caused by a freak occurrence of a user picking up an IP address from DHCP that couldn't get into the forum.

Given the evidence we have, would the mods be open to the idea of changing his avatar? I was reading an old thread on suspension yesterday that has been resurrected and it had DD's avatar all over it. All our members seeing that everytime they see one of his many posts, is only going to keep the wound open for those in the forces, or who have lost family in the forces, who have been angered by this.

Yep...seen many of his replies and it seems his advice wast most often very good.....I guess changing the avatars of all three to show a picture of Hitler and a link to this thread could be useful???

I'd also say to anyone not wanting him to sit at his desk loving all the attention this is getting that he is not getting the last laugh here....we are. We'll all forget about him soon enough and go on in our normal, everyday lives where we have genuine friendships, love and laughter.

To the person known to us as DD/Becks/Geoffrey...Book yourself some sessions with a psychologist mate...you'll be happier for it in the long run and be careful too. You've done this to us....none of us will give you the satisfaction of making you pay, but one day you'll dupe someone that really will hurt you for it! A link to this thread? would just increase his satisfaction. In view of Fizz not wanting to alter anything incase it was genuine (I guess that risk has gone now) but I would just delete the avatar if anything (but personally just leave it)

Banning all those ip addresses would stop him even reading the forum as a guest (from those ipp addresses) but seeing as he had so many he would probably be able to get another ip address anyway so probably little value in banning them.

there will be plenty. I doubt Dangerous Dave is the only personal with multiple online persona's

Then you have couples who live together and share the same broadband router / laptop / desktop PC etc etc

Now this bit is not directed at anybody but a general comment...

So take this as warning if you like... You might think you are getting away with it, but every post you make every IP you use is all recorded and that information can be retrieved.

Have a look at the forum rules & regs, it does specifically state in there "no multiple user names" if you look back at the infraction thread where Lozzo asked what they were, you'll notice theres an infraction for Multiple account registration to.

As fo the user profiles for DD, Becks & Geoffrey, well they can simply wiped clean of details avatar etc etc. The posts will stay though unless their accounts get deleted and I dont think its necessary to remove the posts TBH.
