Quite like this time of year. The gift sets come out and I get to try different things without buying a big bottle

Yesterday I was mostly drinking London Pride. Appropriate as I was in London at the annual meeting of me old mates from uni. Found one of those tiny old fashioned pubs just off Covent Garden with character in spades and a barman with a sense of humour.

Today I am mostly drinking tea which is probably not ideal seeing as how dehydrated I feel today... It's no good, I am now officially a lightweight when it comes to alcohol, and I suck so bad at pool after four pints, but then we all did so that made me feel better. But then I am also suffering the after effects of the curry we went for afterwards. I really do think Indian restaurants should ban groups of lads who've had more than half a shandy, even those of us heading into middle age, as we always ALWAYS chose something hotter than we would normally do if out with, say, our other halves. Must go and put another bog roll in the fridge.

I'm having a huge mug of tea. Rather have a huge mug of beer, but I'm on nights.

Ask me again at about 7.30 tomorrow morning...

I'm with you on that one although since discovering master of malt and places like it, I order miniatures (or custom drams from masters of malt) and get to try so much more. I'm not interested in large quantities of nice things. It's the variety that I enjoy.

We should have a bi-weekly thread next year, like a reading club but everyone orders the nominated dram and compares notes after sampling it within the same time frame. Another mad idea by myself or something my fellow spirit drinkers might be interested in?

Limit of £10, (likely closer to £5 avg for samples) could be monthly but easier to forget

A glass of Theakstons Old Peculiar with some nice crispy pork crackling.

My wife's German cousin does something like this with a group of his mates with their whiskey club.

It had to be done.
Even better because it's in the most childish setting

Brett, are you really admitting to owning a carpet that seems to have come from a 1970's pub?

Like the idea of the tasting club. Not yet found many Scottish wines I really like so miniatures/drams to try and compare notes on sounds fun.

Hah yup, it features in way too many of my pictures. We've both hated it since we moved in.... nearly 10 years ago! despite abusing it with muddy shoes and dog hair it still is in decent condition. One day we'll get around to it but in the mean time we still dislike it but tolerate it.
