Finally got some money out of the insurance for the accident in 2018.

This is for the uninsured losses (kit & injury) had the bike money within a few days

It's only an interim payment, we're off to court for the rest.

Bloody hell, is this when the German driver was on your side of the road? How on earth can it take 4 years for such slam-dunk liability?

Liability wasn't in question. The problem was the assessment of the extent of injury.

Lockdown added a bit of time but the whole medical assessment system seems to be set up to maximise the number of visits and reports.
Each one was 2 hours long with no decision and vague speculation and reassement by a specialist in 6 months. The next one would say the same. We're only at this stage because I'd had enough of them wasting my time.

After years of Uni, job experience and the last couple of years of trying to get a job in his chosen field of qualifications my son left home today to start his first proper job working for IFCA in Brighton. I can't tell you how much we're relieved and happy that all the hard work has finally paid off.

So we're true empty nesters now.

It does. He did marine conservation at Uni with this kind of role in mind. He's also policing fishing quotas, so will be boarding boats with a truncheon

Out on the bike today. There's definitely an increase in insect life out and about, at least round this way. For the last couple of years there's been next to nothing splatted on the bike or visor, but his year there seems to be significantly more. Still not back to where it was 10 or 20yrs ago, but looking hopeful.
I guess this turns into a gripe when the bike needs washing every run out, but that's a small price to pay IMO.

I've noticed the decline over the years too. It's still poor around here.
