If you get caught doing over a ton it doesn't mean you will lose your licence, go to jail, get shot or be fined the max penalty. Just that you could do, if the magistrates are having a bad day.
If the worst comes to worst, say sorry and take it on the chin. You were speeding after all, and may just get a few points and a fine.

Dont worry until you see what the letter contains, no point speculating. Also i wouldnt recommend the 'your honour this is a farce because some chap in the intraweb swears that police kit is flawed' as this sort of thing is likely to get cash/points increased.

Own up, appologise, get character witnesses, state you are doing IAM and that you need to drive for work and i reckon the worst you are looking at is 6 points.

A mate of mine got caught doing 110 in her dad's BMW (which I don't think she was insured to drive) and got away with 3 points! This was in a 40 mph zone. Lucky bint.

I wouldnt worry until you get the ticket. Just to make you feel worse. I have only been done for speeding twice and it was on the A75 although it was 30 years ago.

If you do get done at 101mph, and end up in court, it will give you a chance to ask the 2 officers if they attended their parents wedding

I don't know much about Scottish legislation but in England police have to tell you at the scene that they are 'reporting you for the question to be considered of prosecuting you for the offence of' speeding or dangerous driving or whatever. Or send you a notice of intended prosecution, within 14 days of date of offence. And have a 6 month time limit on prosecutions. Basically they have to do all the paperwork and get to trial at court all sorted out within 6 months.

Police deal with loads of traffic offences and will occasionally make a mistake. Legal advise will be able to spot any mistakes they've made. It might end up with them dropping it altogether. Keep your fingers crossed and whatever you do don't lie. The penalty for lying to police can be jail!!

BPete can I ask you how difficult is it to get a speed reading from a motorbike using a handheld laser? And are you saying that it may or may not be difficult to get a reading but that you don't believe it ever gives a false reading for a motorbike?
Thanks

Just to clarify a couple of things though: For the NIP, it has to be sent so that it would arrive within 14 days during the normal course of the post. The days start counting the day after the offence though. But they can't send it on the last day as it would never arrive within the 14 obviously.

For the court - they have 6 months to lay the information with the court - basically to start proceedings. They don't have to actually have gone to court, and the court don't have to have set a date, they just need to get the ball rolling. There is another time limit on how long they can take to actually start the court case but I'm less sure about that - I've heard 3 years but I wouldn't take that as gospel.

Only ever pointed the laser at one motorbike and he failed to stop and crashed soon after (he was banned and on a stolen bike so no sympathy) It wasn't hard to get the lock. Apart from him, I never seem to see motorcyclists speeding
