Point is, its not intelligence making them have life partners ... its instinct ... so in humans, is it 'instinct' to be monogamous? ... I suspect not ... hence the amount of adultery we see every day ... everywhere

The vast majority of animals do the horizontal love dance mainly to reproduce, we humans do it mainly for fun.

Think of it this way, how would you feel if the person you love tells you they are having an affair?

You would be lying if you said it wouldn't hurt!

BUT, I don't believe anyone has the right to interfere, my husband had an affair and if anyone had told me I wouldn't have believed them and would have told them to keep their nose out.
I had to find out for myself (you do get to see the signs in the end) and only then could believe it for myself.

I was just having a heated discussion about this topic in the pub and was reminded of this thread, so I thought I'd look it up.

My argument was that humans, like so many other animals, are not designed to be monogamous, it's just social norms originally enforced through the (Christian)church, that says monogamy is the only right way. I see it as a form of social control though.
Like Northwind, I believe honesty is really the only and the best option.
