Hmmm. Interesting. Personally I would have thought that you could sack someone for acting on a belief, but not for having the belief in the first place!

I have heard somewhere before that poilcemen were banned from joining, but it does smack a bit of having to conform in order to get/keep your job.

My niece is a Christian, goes to church and she wasn't allowed to give her christmas cards out to her friends in school last year in case it caused offence (she was 5 then) .....yet, later in the year the whole school had to join in with one of the jewish religious holidays to celebrate it. Because the country is getting like this, some people want to support the BNP that normally wouldn't.

Don't agree with them, but I do feel sorry for the people on the list. Regardless of what group you support.....would you be happy for your home address, email address and occupation to be free for all to see?

5mins in Google, and I found a post on lockergnome by the person offering the document in the OP of this thread. This post details the fact that they have kids, and have been setting up a home network.

I also found a name, and an email address. It wouldn't take too much research to narrow this down to an area, possibly an address.

People should think twice before hosting this sort of information. Heaven forbid someone that's taken offence to the list being posted find the information I have!

EDIT: I can also tell you that the person offering that list for public viewing, has Windows XP with various shares enabled, and a printer. They also have Remote Desktop enabled on a 10.x.x.x IP address, for which firewalking is possible. Their ISP is Tiscali (which is obvious from a simple lookup), so it probably won't be long before the list is removed.

I must admit, I'm very tempted to send something to their printer. But I sharn't.

This list is all over the internet. I very much doubt that the owner of this website was the person who actually leaked it. It's also on wikileaks, various bit torrent sites etc.

I've spotted one name I know on it, but he's barking mad anyway.

That much was a given, as soon as I whois'd & saw it was a barefruit netblock. A little peculiar that BareFruit should be hosting something like that.

Of course it's legal, it's a contractual agreement. There are many posts where membership of *any* political party will prevent you from taking the job. This is not saying that it's illegal to vote for a given party but it is against the terms of your contract to actively support (and being a member of, or wearing a lapel button etc would count as active support) said party or indeed any particular party.

The Police and the BBC have been specifically mentioned so lets go through the BNP Constitution and see if there's anything in there that could conflict with the Police's responsibility to fairly police the inhabitants of this island, or the BBCs duty to provide a broad inclusive service to the all inhabitants:

And that's the very briefest of tasters of their publicly stated goals. It is quite obvious that subscription to those goals would stretch to the extreme any perceived impartiality of the Police in their dealings with the public or the BBC as part of their charter to provide inclusive broadcasting.

Some fair points matt.

However IMO discriminating against the far right like that, with job losses etc. simply adds fuel to the fire. They're NOT C18 they are a political party, they should be defeated democratically. You can be sure every job loss from this will appear in a speech at a BNP rally, or somewhere else... By this underhand crap it legitimises the threat, and feeds every conspiracy theorist going.

And another thing, what you do when not at work is your own business. Obviously a copper walking around in uniform with BNP badge is going to be bad, but out of uniform there shouldn't be an issue. Or at least if you're going to take that stance, ban membership of ANY political party.

That's the way it should be. After all, the only difference between the 12,000 people on that list and perhaps millions of other people isn't their views, it's that those 12,000 were the ones that had gotten around to signing up.

The thought police are will us already. Imo this kind of intolerance and prejudice is far worse than any of the BNPs policies.

How many are going to get the anti nazi nazis banging on their doors as a result of this list and how genuine is it. How do errors in the compilation get corrected.

What people do, say or think in private is up to themselves. If they want to discuss it in public, only then should they then have to justify their thoughts.

+1. Oh and it's in breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 too. I hope whoever published it gets caught.

It would be considered as illegal to have that as an organisational policy in the ECHR, and if taken further, I'm convinced it would be proven.
