well that were easy enough. Norton removal tool used. AGV downloaded. Only thing is that it reckons on the resident shield isn't active, although its just popped something up to say otherwise. Probably something to do with windows firewall or vista being ghey and it conflicts.
Is there anything else free that I should be using to complement the AGV free thing, as it says its only basic. Dunno what it doesn;t protect compared to Norton and vice versa.

Yes malware bytes (linked in the OP) run a full scan every week or two and your choice of fire wall. I like online armour bit of faffing around at first to let it know what to allow but little hassle after that.

Old IE uses memory for each window open, about 90-200 mb depending on page. So if you have 8-10 open there is your memory gone. New IE7 and firefox use tabbed browsing so you have one window but many tabs. So while you still are using more memory for each tabbed page you not using as much memory for each windows frame work so you can do more.
I use opera, does all i asked of it.. Only have one browser window open, with around 1-3 tabs open at one time..

Its msn thats that the problem, usually have anywhere from 2/3 to 10 windows open at once.. i know that msn is like just looking for virus's, but i cant help it

So all those recommending a reinstall of Windows - how do you know you haven't copied your virus onto the portable hardrive & then back onto the fresh instal?

You still need to be careful with torrents. I use them and i have a virus, not going to stop me though.

Think this might be an issue with AVG, make sure your little flag in the tool bar is yelloe, blue, red & green. If it's black, then it's not working, but try checking in the AVG control centre. My laptop does this, because it's not updated regulary.

Once I've updated the anti virus is active again

I think there is a fix for it

You need some Anti spyware software too. AOL does mine, so I don't know what to recommend.
