Either an australian bird eating spider or a huntsman I forget. My mates either been nearly bitten by or actually bitten by a huntsman I forget, pretty sure he did and they're not venomous but could be wrong. apparently they run round the tops of the walls of a room and when they get to a corner leap to the next wall. yum

There are so many tarantulas that can be handled because thay are so docile and placid, it could be any of them. It does seem to have some nice fur on it though.
The biggest is the Goliath Spider, but handling that one is risky because they can be very aggressive, with hissing, rearing up and biting. Most people who have one will know if theirs can be handled though. A quick Google shows that one up to be a Goliath here. Venom is not overly toxic, but a bite will still be painful. Have a look at this for some interesting facts. I love spiders, amazing little animals. ![]() |

![]() Now that made me feel a little bit sick. Partly because they are all smaller spiders, which to me are the worst and partly because it looks like it kills them all. Strangley, I'd rather it if they were trapped but alive so I could get rid of them without them the nice way. Just find a tray of dead spiders more disturbing than a tray of alive ones. |

There is actually one household (ok, garden) spider that can bite you properly. They're not venomous though, the bite just feels a bit like a bee sting (without the stinging afterwards) - I know as I've been bitten by one.
It's the woodlouse spider, like this: ![]() But then, I tend to mess with agressive animals, and I've also been bitten by one of these: ![]() That was pretty scary. |

I do like Spindly Spiders though.....these even eat other spiders so am happy to leave them be. I know they probably crawl all over me at night, but I don't care because they're too light to wake me up! ![]() Now, I don't know this for fact, but remember reading it in an entomology book once that the very common Spindly Spider (above) is actually the most poisonous spider in the world. It has the most toxic venom but is never on any of the lists because, unlike many other spiders, it's fangs are almost hair like and cannot come close to penetrating human flesh. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe it judging by watching a fairly small one strike a massive house spider. Jus a few seconds later, house spider dead, Spindly went over and wrapped it up! |
