Is it just me or does this thread remind anyone of operating systems? And the whole MS vs Apple thing?

Firstly, there's the upgrade argument i.e.

"I'm on Win 3.1.1 and it does everything I need...but I've heard that Win95 is the nuts."
"Yes, it is. but there's Window NT, too...."
"Noo....you need an Apple. MS is just a huge faceless corporation trying to get it's evil claws into everything"

Just me?

I've had my current phone for over 2 years. It rings (occasionally) and people are on the other end wanting to speak to me. It texts. It photogrpahs. And it will get me lost in foreign countries. Do I really need to upgrade....!

Anybody that knows me will know just how much I hate the generalisation that goes on with the Apple vs Microsoft vs Google debate.

I rarely recommend a company and I certainly wouldnt tell you that a product is great simply because its made by Apple or Nokia etc. In this case though, like them or hate them, Apple have the best product by far in this category. The iPhone is a brilliant piece of technology, it has its flaws like all the others but its seriously leagues ahead of anything else out there at the moment. Google looks to be the most serious threat to that with Android but that will take time.

In the meantime though, for the next couple of years at least, with an iPhone you will have likely the best smartphone on the market.

Not according to a lot of owners. And the support is lacking, too.

What don't you like about them?

If I was upgrading to a non-iPhone, I'd be very tempted by the HTC Hero.

Only 3 things really.

1. Size

2. Its touchscreen

3. Its apple.

Fair enough.

It is bigger than a lot of phones, but most people get used to it. I found the touchscreen to be far more versatile than a built-in keyboard. But if you have some kind of aversion to Apple hardware, then the iPhone probably isn't for you

The N97 has a touchscreen and a keyboard. I text really fast on my 6500 slide, but can't seem to do the same on a touch screen. Might the keyboard on the N97 make it easier if I am typing long emails?

What would really sell a phone to me would be features like:

Will survive being dropped down the toilet/in the bath/off a balcony
Will automatically block calls from journalists asking difficult questions
Will make me look fabulous in all photos taken on the camera
Will always remain on top of all the other junk in my huge handbag rather than sneaking to the bottom under the half eaten sweets

Most people start with one-fingered iPhone typing, and progress to two-thumbed typing, which is very quick.

What is it with women and laptops? My wife (also a Jen) has two, one work and one personal, and they are scattered around the lounge right now.
