iPhone 4 here. It was a toss-up between that and the HTC - not much between them for what I needed.
iPhone is great for what I want - mainly work email and diary, handles documents OK, decently quick internet browsing (so quick on wi-fi in the house I don't often bring the laptop out now). The keyboard I didn't like initially and it's probably tricky for those with podgy fingers but I got used to it quite quickly. 32GB memory for a bit of music and games when you're working away and bored. I've got all the music I need on there and it hasn't touched the sides in terms of memory. I'm not on Facebook or anything like that so no idea how the social networking stuff works. What I liked most about it was that I could use it straight out the box even though I've never used a single Apple product before. An impressive amount of thought has gone into that side of things. No problems for me in terms of call dropping or loss of signal. The HTC is probably just as good for my limited needs to be fair but I couldn't comment cos I haven't got one of those! |

Yeh, I am not arguing with you, I'm just saying they are both good phones with not much between them IMO. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...ards-2010.html and http://www.whatmobileawards.co.uk/20...-winners-2010/ Last edited by Milky Bar Kid; 08-01-11 at 12:44 AM. |

The only app I have paid for is a GPS lap timing app which has every track on it and twitters my lap times and splits live.
It also monitors acceleration, braking, lean angle, you can input your setup into (tyres, suspension etc.) and it records ambient temp etc. Its pretty cool. |

I'll be honest Mark, I've not read the past 5 pages, but I would go for an Android phone over an Iphone and then just buy a pay and go SIM in the country you are in.
The big networks are everywhere so you should be able to buy a pay and go SIM, I did it in Thailand (fairplay it was 2003 and 2004) and the charges weren't as bad as you might think and these days there is wireless in most places and cafes so you can connect and send e-mails and surf internet and things. Especially if you want to send postcards using the 'Postcards' app which is on both the Iphone and Android phones Another plus is that if you want to use an internet cafe then you can either plug your Android in using the cable and select the 'Use as USB' function to get access to any clips you have recorded or pics taken or remove the memory card and use a card reader to do the same. I have to admit I have no idea how the Iphone works but as far as I know they don't have removable storage, i.e. a memory card Here is an example of one, got quite good reviews actually, especially for the price http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phon...Orange-in-grey Hope this helps

I chose desire Z, purely because of the full qwerty keyboard, cant stand touchscreen typing, it also overclocks well. The 2nd gen processor is on par with the regular snapdragon. Price may be no object, but i personally dislike being taken for a mug and paying over the odds even if i do have the money. The iphone 4 is a good phone though, once jailbroken. I would have to disagree with this completely, Everybody I know that has an iphone loves it, uses it, wears it out, then hates it. They have a tendancy to run awfully slow after lots of use. My friend had a 3G, had it for about 13/4 months and it got to the point it would take 2 minutes to open a text, then crash, then phone off/on again which would take about 2 minutes to boot up, then open text 1 minute. He threw it at a wall in the end. I've had my 3Gs which I used quite a lot for youtube, internet, texting, calls, and game apps. When it works, it is absolutely brilliant, but, the signal is rubbish, I'm on orange, my friend is on vodafone, we both have periods when we have absolutely no signal, but I believe is a common fault through the iphone 3 + 3gs for sure, not sure about 4. One of my work colleagues has an iphone, and his is now starting to crash about 4-5 times a week, he barely uses it, and is about 8 months old. Mine is getting on for 10 months old, it kicks you out of apps every now and again, crashes maybe 4-5 times a month, and as I said, can lose signal for no reason (when someone on same operator will have signal) The internet signal is okay (when not connected to wifi) but compared to blackberry bold 9780, it is soooooooooo slow it's unbelievable. Despite all the above, I still like my iphone 3gs, but I doubt I will get the 4 or any new ones they put out. It is brilliant as an 'all rounder' but excels at nothing. Plus, if you do spend a few hours surfing the net you'll be at 50% battery, couple of hours of music 10% and then a few texts and calls battery is dead, so very easy if you're out all day to destroy the battery really quick and end up with a dead brick until you're home to charge. All of the above is just my experience, and I'm not recommending you don't get an iphone, just maybe consider the downsides. |
