no.

Not unless you wrapped one tight enough to cut through the bark and ruin the trees transport system (and it couldn't heal in time).

There's just not enough copper to do the job on any decent size tree, You'd have more luck either ring barking it (rutting away a cm or so of bark all the way round the trunk) or just using a weedkiller.

Either way you've got a dying tree that'll drop branches and eventually fall over.
