Long post, hope it makes a point or two.
What a great day we all had yesterday! I'd like to say a huge big thankyou for the help and assistance given freely by Mark and Ian that was nothing short of immensely generous and I for one am indebted. Anyone noticed how bikers are such nice people? Apart from the fun factor of taking bits apart without the fear of ending up with a bag of bits that could never be reassembled correctly and doubtless would have had to have been put on Ebay ![]() ![]() As for riding it? Well having taken it for a longish ride today with loads of B roads and the A507 Buntingford/Baldock route there is no doubt that the bike is far superior over all surfaces. I gave it a short test yesterday round the block but I was tired, it wasn't long enough and the fact that my rear tyre pressure was very low didn't help first impressions at all as the bike felt it was dragging it's **** pushing out of corners. Upon checking my tyre pressures this morning I was convinced that my footpump's guage was broken as the rear only showed **psi (no I ain't tellin' ![]() With a correctly pressurised rear tyre the bike now feels wonderful and very confidence inspiring - how strange! ![]() Is it perfect? No, I still feel I'd like a little more preload as the front dives a little too much for my liking under heavy braking so that's down to some experimentation over the next few weeks and I think I'll try an 18mm spacer instead of the 12mm that's currently there. However there is definitely a big improvement though as was demonstrated earlier whilst in a 30 zone: A big Jag on the other side of the road was stationary, indicating to turn right (across my path) and suffers from "bike blindness" as he starts to turn right in front of me, sees me then decides to stop dead in the middle of the road instead of putting his foot to the floor to get out of my way. Nicely controlled emergency braking, slight chirp from the rear, front firmly compressed but under control. I then visually explain to the driver how many fingers, should a surgical glove be made available, that I'd like to insert into a very personal orifice of his ![]() Overall this is a first class improvement (quite subtle in some ways) that makes the bike more fun to ride but ride with a hitherto missing quality of confidence but it really begs the question, as what we did was really only minor (from a technology viewpoint), why the f*ck couldn't Suzuki have done this in the first place? Happy bunny? Yessir. What's that, you haven't done your forks yet? Forget the going faster bits, do this first. Trust me. Wish I'd done it ages ago. . |
