Interesting why it winds so many of us up... it is partly cos it's inconveneient/hassle but I think it's also a feeling that we're being treated as second class citizens, plus bikers being a stroppy lot who think of themselves as fredom loving indivudals (part of the myth/icon of biking) we don't like irrational rules that no one can give a claer answer for why they exist.

On the whole I think it's just prejudice... I have no doubt I get treated differntly (i.e with less respect) in garages if I'm on the bike rather than in the car.

And, Northwind, what's all this stuff about people don't like to see crash helmets in a bank??? I don't like to see outrageously fat people weaing clothes that are far too small and exposing lots of flesh in ASDA but I put up with it... Aren't people with crash helmets at banks a common sight e.g. security guards..

I used to work in a petrol station years ago and never had a problem / felt threatened by bikers leaving their lids on - even working the night shift alone at 3 am.

The mentality of the companies etc that insist on this for security is basically saying that anyone who covers their head / face MUST be up to no good - refer to previous posts regarding head dresses etc - it's no different than the recent hoodie ban at that shopping centre (the name of which escapes me). Does the fact that I wear a helmet while I'm parking the bike make me more likely to commit a crime in the street / car park? No, so why does it mean this in a petrol station?

The only people I was scared of were the f***wits who would try and fill up their cages with a lit cigarette in the same hand they grabbed the pump handle with!

Never been asked to remove my lid at the till, but did have a problem at the pump in one station. Guy put out a call on the tannoy for me to remove my helmet before he would switch on the pump! I just shook my head and left. Next time, same thing so I highlighted the the hideously loud work issye flourescent jacket with PARAMEDIC all over it......service was restored. Now have no problems as they seem to have got to know me.

Don't like it but I think it's something we will have to learn to live with in this security conscious society! BAHHHH!

Security guards wear open face protection and, more imnportantly, uniforms uniforms. Bike lids are exactly as welcome as balaclava helmets would be for incredibly obvious reasons. You can't seriously think it makes sense to allow people to completely hide their identity in a bank can you?

I think they'd be more likely to ask you to put your lid back on if you'd taken it off

And why do these filling stations think parking a rusty mark 2 Escort with police markings on the forecourt will stop me nicking petrol?
