I'm quite sure the Z6s are up to sensible track day use (as are all modern road tyres I suggest).

I did a track day on the old Z4s last year - seemed ok to me!

In all honesty I had a Z6 on the front - still managed to overtake many a sportsbike tho...

I couldnt get them to go any further over than this - felt like I was going to lay the bike down! Scraped the feck out of the peg nipples too...!

Default Conti's!!!

I'd go for the Conti's. I commute on mine so lifespan is important. I've had about 7000 out of the back so far. You can park the bike standing without the sidestand they are so squared off but they've lasted well. lol.

I've got more than 7000 on my rear Roadtec and it's still tyre shaped and seems to have plenty of life in, FWIW. Though by all accounts they do go downhill fast at the end.

Regarding trackdays... I personally wouldn't. I found the straight-line traction to be a real limiting factor. Cornering, they're fine as long as you don't want to just fling it into hairpins. But I'll not go back to a trackday with a Roadtec front tyre- might run a Roadtec rear and Sportec front though.

So are the sportecs a lot grippier, and what kind of mileage would they do on the road?

As for straight line traction, are you talking about braking or putting the power down?

Mainly braking...

Sportecs are a load grippier, but here's the thing, on the street you don't need it. I had Sportecs on the bike when I got it, and they're ace, but what you're doing is trading tyre life (and a lot of it) for traction that IMO, you won't need on the road unless you're riding like a ****.

Can't really say how the Sportecs lasted... the bike's last 500 miles with the last owner were really babied, she'd lost confidence in the bike after a big crash... And since hte SV was my first bike, I wasn't asking much of them either for a good while. I think that rear saw 4000 miles, though it was just a tad illegal by then

There's probably better tyres... Certainly I think the Roadtec is a better tyre for the SV, day to day.

Here's a side thought. How many miles do you do? I do, in a full year, 15-20K (assuming I don't, for example, fracture my hip or wreck my knee, like I did last year). I use Roadtecs... And by doing so, I basically save 3-4 rear tyres in the coarse of a year, and probably 1-2 fronts. That, in just one year, pays for a complete set of spare wheels with stickier tyres on, should I choose to go to trackdays etc, with cash to spare. And IMO it's not a compromise to use the Roadtecs, they give me all the grip I want and they're actually far better than the Sportecs in the winter.
