What are you looking for there, ketoacidosis?
Basically yeah. They want to make sure that you didn't just say you starved yourself for the last 24 hours, they want to see the money.
Its a very easy test to do, so... yeah. Not all guys will do it, but I think most will.
What is more impressive are the guys that can diagnose lung cancer from the smell of your breath. (They exist.)

Christ Kingvig. Get with the scene.
The difference is mainly to do with ping pong balls.

That will assist your Google searching.

as has prob been said, you need to use up more calories than you eat.

But a small change over a long period of time will make a huge difference.

jools's 7 tips to weight loss

tip1
Change a daily habit
e.g a client of mine lost 3 stone by switching from the normal ribena carton drink to the no added sugar version.
he drank 6 a day, the calorie difference was 800 a day! = 5600 a week or 1.6lbs a week, just by changing the type of drink.

I picked up an Orangina yesterday = 220 calories. Bearing in mind that avg intake should be about 2500 (avg bloke) that's nearly 10% of your daily food....in 1 drink

tip 2
Don't deny yourself
rather than cutting out a type of food altogether (apart from crisps and choccy = completely wasted calories) just have smaller portions. Have a pint not 6. have a glass of wine, not a bottle.

tip 3
add your own extras.
eg tuna mayo from the sarny shop=how much mayo?? . ask for dry tuna and add a bit of mayo yourself - that way you know how much there is and you are in control of it.
same applies to salad dressings

tip 4
eat plenty of fruit and veg - boring, but good for you.

tip 5
remove temptation - don't buy it
if it's not in the cupboard/fridge you can't eat it. so don't buy all that crap at the supermarket in the first place. hence removing the temptation of having those 6 biscuits with you tea.
your an adult you know what's good for you and whats bad, don't eat it.

tip 6
view food as fuel, not entertainment or comfort.
would you poor chocolate in your bikes fuel tank cos it tastes nice? no, because it does it no good and would make it run badly. Guess what? chocolate does you no good and makes you run badly too! (no i'm not saying drink petrol)
ok, we're bikers, we know what our bikes need and we look after them. ie petrol, oil, chain lube, servicing, tyres, lights etc etc
what does your body need? protein, carbs, vitamins, fats, minerals, water.

tip 7
Cook your food.
no really, buy the ingredients and cook them. Don't use the jar sauces, ready meals and all that over processed crap. Cook it.
How difficult is it to make pasta sauce?, err tomato, basil, olives. how tricky was that?
look on the jar of pasta sauce....what is all that sh*t?
Really good advice that

Stuff that, too much like hard work

Seriously though, the missus & I have just been on a 'Russian Kettlebell' Masterclass - Never worked so hard for a good few years The lactic acid build-up in my Glutes, Quads and Hamstrings is still killing me a good 24 hours afterwards - an awesome training aid though

I intend to really give these a go, and do a bit of jogging...

I wish I was 13 shone though (well, actually, no I don't because I'd look ridiculous,) 14 and a half would be good though

Ya mean 'running', not 'jogging' If you think 13 stone would look ridiculous, just think of us 11 stoners....

Ed, please bear in mind, as a 16 year old I was boxing at 12st 8lbs... 6' tall...

I'm still 6' tall, but now a little over 19st What a difference 19 years, good living & a few beers makes eh

Anyway, like I said, 14 and a half stone would be marvellous

It shouldn't take long to disappear as I have a lot to lose

What’s scary is just how much effort you need to exert to burn just a few calories …

Ok, so tonight I tried to equate what 1000 calories is … i.e. what you have to do to burn off 1k calories … so I went on the cross trainer and dialled in the ‘fat burn’ setting … for thems not familiar, on ‘fat burn’ the machine basically varies the load to try and keep your heart rate in the ‘fat burning’ zone … I am 32, so that is 122bmp for me … it took 70 mins … yes an hour and 10 mins of exercise at that heart rate and a speed of 10-12 (kmh?!?!) to burn the 1000 calories … (yes I know I could have done 100 and multiplied it, but I do an hour anyways, so it wasn’t much more to get the full 1000 ).

So … using the 52,000 calories per stone estimate above … that would be 52*70mins that’s 3640 mins … or 2.5 DAYS of continual cross training for me to burn up a stones worth of calories … … I suppose you get the bonus of ~6000 calories you used up just to survive over that time too (i.e. your 2.5k a day normal living ).

2.5 full days 24hrs a day … now that’s hard work …

I know its sad I actually thought about that, but hey look … I was on the cross trainer for over an hour … what else did I have to think about?!!? (I had already checked out all the 'ass' on my run!! ) BTW they had an episode of the Simpson’s on today that I hadn’t seen before!!

I've never been anal about it - I ran 4 and a bit miles tonight in 31.24, heart rate around 100 ish I spose, didn't use a monitor - so I guess 450 odd calories - or a KitKat - is that all...

What is this cross trainer you speak of? One of those cross country skiing emulators? If so, don't them things really work you hard?

Using your heart rate as a body 'speedo' is a great way to target a workout. Using the 'fat burn' range will be exercising at a very low rate to make sure all calories used come from fat. Going up to a more intensive cardio workout will be as beneficial to 'burning fat', but use more calories per hour, as long as you eat a reduced calorie diet (or at least less than 2500 + calories burned) since much of the glycogen fuels stores that were used during exercise will be replenished from fat stores.

It is only hard training at 80+% MHR (ROT) where you need to really think about replacing the carbohydrate based calories burned during exercise.
